"The MAP Clinics exemplify George Mason's commitment to education and community in profound and meaningful ways. These clinics provide support to vulnerable populations in low-income and medically underserved areas. They serve as training clinics where Faculty act as providers, instructors, and administrators. Students participate at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Nursing students provide exams, Spanish students provide interpretation and Counseling and Social Work students provide case management support. The large majority of patients are newly arriving refugees or immigrant families and this may come with a fear of doctors as well as navigating a new country, language and customs while searching for resources to support their families. This work is tremendously important and makes me very proud to be able to experience and see the impact it has in creating support and sharing kindness."

"The George Mason University Arboretum is an initiative to document and protect the trees and other woody plants across Mason’s campuses. The University Arboretum effort, and the ongoing accreditation work through ArbNet, is a testament to collaboration and teamwork that involves students, faculty, and staff in the protection and conservation of Mason’s natural resources while also turning them into a living laboratory and educational resource that is accessible to all, either in-person or virtually."

The mission of the Centreville Immigration Forum is to implement sustainable programs that provide immigrants in need with the means to improve their lives and become more integrated into the community; improve communication and cooperation among all groups serving immigrants, and build community recognition of our strength in diversity. For many years, the Centerville Immigration Forum and Centreville Labor Resource Center have been fantastic partners to Mason and SAIL by providing opportunities for students to engage thoughtfully.

"Aoi is “impressive” in her mentorship, leadership, and advocacy for including each and every student in critical spaces, “impressive” does not quite capture her innate gifts and generosity with those gifts. Under her guidance, I have witnessed, first-hand, how students blossom in their sense of belonging, belief in self, and love of learning and make deeply significant contributions to the world. "
