GMU KSA will be having our very first Vlog Competition over this Winter Break!🏅You’ve seen our vlogs and now here’s your turn to exhibit your creativity, persona, and adventures through your own videos!

Channel your inner vlogger and film yourself throughout a moment, a day, a week, etc. 📸 The time period and type of vlogs are open for your interpretation; however they must be filmed during the 2020-2021 Winter Break!

Once all entries are submitted by the deadline, the winners will be chosen through a voting period and will be notified via email.

The competition is open to anyone!

Family Interest Form

Hi KSA fam, we hope you enjoyed family week last week because we sure did!! ✨ We had a great time bonding with you all!

Although you will not OFFICIALLY be picked up this semester, you will be able to show your interest in joining that family!

Next semester in the spring, you will be able to apply to officially be picked up and be part of the family. If you are interested, please fill out the family interest form BY October 4th! 🏡🗓

In order to join a family, you must pay dues ($5: a semester | $8: whole year) by early next semester. ‼️ If you have questions on how to pay, please dm @Ching Duong for more info.

Hello everyone! Hope everyone had a great first week back !

Carolyne Im, a student at The George Washington University, is currently seeking testimonials for HEAL Act Campaign.

She works with the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (NAPAWF)-Chicago chapter to advocate for the Health Equity & Access under the Law (HEAL) for Immigrant Women & Families Act.

The HEAL Act removes political interference and restores health care coverage so immigrants in the U.S. can participate in the health care programs their tax dollars support.

Under current law, immigrants must wait five years after obtaining lawful permanent resident status before they are eligible for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). As a result, immigrants must navigate a patchwork of care by relying on insurance from their employer, community health centers, or pay out-of-pocket for basic health care.

NAPAWF is advocating for the HEAL Act, which would:

- Restore enrollment to full-benefit Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to all federally authorized immigrants who are otherwise eligible.

- Remove the exclusion of a subset of immigrants from accessing health insurance coverage on the Affordable Care Act's Health Insurance Exchanges.

- Ensure access to public and affordable health coverage for DACA recipients

- Reinstate Medicaid eligibility for COFA migrants.

They are hoping to gather testimonials of people who are directly impacted by lack of access to healthcare because of their immigration status to emphasize the urgency of the HEAL Act and how it impacts AAPI communities. (ideally include both a short testimony of how their immigration status impacts their access to health care/why they support the HEAL Act and a picture).

Ultimately, they want to post these testimonials on their Instagram account throughout the month of September.

Specifically, they are looking primarily for immigrants (not necessarily women) who are directly impacted by the five-year barrier to Medicaid and CHIP eligibility due to the 1996 welfare law that is currently in place, and thus would be impacted by the HEAL Act first hand.

Korean American Grassroots Conference - KAGC

Hello everyone!

KAGC, Korean American Grassroots Conference, will be holding a weekly meet & greet with a special guest every Thursday for the next seven weeks!

Tonight's meeting will be at 7PM with Darwin Pham, a Deputy National Press Secretary & AAPI Media Advisor.

They are the largest nation-wide network of Korean American voters, who leads initiatives on voter registration, civic education, community mobilization, as well as raising awareness of critical community issues among members of the U.S. Congress, in order to build a stronger voice for the Korean American community, as well as becoming the bridge between our homeland and motherland.

This week is the LAST week to sign up for any performances for our Culture Show on March 28th !! We have lots of fun opportunities for members to get involved and hope you will consider joining the fun ! There are on and off stage opportunities so help backstage or strut your stuff on stage !

How to Join and Opportunities for people who are COMMITTED !!

- Kpop Through the Decade 2010-2019: Led by Nicole Ferrel, Jenny Lam, Brian La, and I (Catherine Frost) with practices every Friday 3-7pm in front of Gold Room in the JC!

- Traditional Fan Dance: Led by Nicole Ferrel, for ALL LEVELS (esp. beginner) and includes personal fans for the show for an elegant and beautiful performance! Practices are Thursdays 5-7 in front of the Gold Room in JC and Saturdays 1-3 in the RAC ! Almost full so join ASAP !!
