FUNDING OPPORTUNITY!

Mason’s College of Visual and Performing Arts announces its third annual Young Alumni Commissioning Project with the goal of providing crucial support for our recent alumni’s artistic development. Up three recent CVPA alumni (2010 graduate or later) will be commissioned with funding of up to $5,000 to be used at the artist’s discretion to cover project-related expenses, including but not limited to: artist fees, licensing fees, equipment rental/purchases, and travel expenses, plus production and marketing support for a public presentation of the work at or through a Mason venue. Join us for a virtual information session on Thursday, January 21. Application deadline is Friday, February 5.

“I would rather teach the class, even if that means I’m very tired,” said D.C. National Guard Sgt. Jacob Kohut, who teaches class on his breaks.

Dr. Paul Chinen (Music, ’14) is one of seven College of Visual and Performing Arts alumni to receive an Alumni Artist Support Initiative award. Tomorrow at 12:30 PM, Dr. Chinen will offer a living room concert and digital masterclass featuring Alyssa Morris’ Collision Etudes for solo oboe, followed by an opportunity for viewers to ask questions live. The Collision Etudes are a set of six short programmatic etudes inspired by six pieces of art by female American painters.

The arts and entertainment episode this Wednesday, August 5 at 2 pm EDT features Claire Kelly (Head of Exhibitions, Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery) and Sara Ramaker (COO, i.am.MEDIA).
