Va. Special Olympian’s late-game steal, shot make him an NBA All-Star hero

Very proud of our own Chris Carter, a George Mason University Special Olympics athlete and 2016 graduate of George Mason’s Life Program. This weekend, Carter capped what he called “a serious comeback” by stealing an inbounds pass and nailing a short jumper with 11.4 seconds left to bring his East team a 44-43 victory. Congratulations, Chris!

A major win against VCU! We look forward to welcoming our Patriots back as they host GW this Saturday in the #RevRivalry.

Big win! Mason wins at VCU for the second time in three years, behind a great all-around effort. 5 blocks from AJ Wilson makes him Mason's all-time single season blocks leader!

Dear Patriots,

This afternoon, an unattended backpack was identified in the Johnson Center. Shortly after that, one of the Mason Police K9 units identified it as a potential threat.

As a result, the university enacted its safety policies out of an abundance of caution, which included closing the Johnson Center and neighboring buildings. That allowed police to further investigate, at which point they determined that the backpack was not a threat. The building is now fully operational, classes have resumed, and we consider this matter resolved.

We want to thank Mason Police Chief and Assistant Vice President for Public Safety Carl Rowan, Jr., the university’s emergency responders, as well as our law enforcement and fire and rescue partners from Fairfax City and Fairfax County, for their rapid and thorough response and for all they did to keep our community safe.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please know the safety of our students, faculty and staff is a top priority, and we will err on the side of caution in matters like this.

Thank you,

Michael Sandler

Interim Vice President, Office of Communications and Marketing
