Today and every day, we remember, honor, and celebrate the life of none of than Carolyn Vermont 🤍🕊️

A proud Fairfield alumna, University trustee, and unwavering champion for community, Carolyn showed up for us consistently, intentionally, and with so much heart. Her presence, support, and belief in students and in Fairfield meant more than words can express.

Through her leadership, compassion, and commitment to uplifting others, she leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire our network and the broader Fairfield community.

We are deeply grateful for her life, her service, and the way she always showed up for AOCN. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

With love and gratitude,
The Fairfield University Alumni of Color Network

Meet your current AOCN Leadership Team! 👶🏽🍼✨

From baby pics to big impact, these are the faces behind the love, leadership, and legacy in our community 🤍🦌

They may have grown up, but the mission stayed the same — showing up, giving back, and building what’s next. Swipe through to meet the team 💫

P.S. a couple of our MVPs are playing a little game of peek-a-boo 👀🫣

🩷 3rd Annual Feminine Hygiene Drive = SUCCESS 🩷

We are still feeling so full after an incredible night ✨ This year, we packed 575 kits alongside students, staff, alumni, and community members — all going to support 🫶🏽

Each year this event grows bigger, stronger, and more impactful — and this one was no exception 🔥 From the energy in the room to the hands-on service, it reminded us what community care really looks like and the transformative power it holds.

Thank you so much to all who donated this year & to everyone who showed up and showed out to the sorting event! We are so grateful for our partnership with , , and . HUGE shoutout to our amazing Service Rep Luckario for leading and bringing this vision to life for the THIRD year in a row 👏🏽💫

We’re just getting started… can’t wait to see how this continues to grow! Stay tuned for what’s next. Happy Women’s History Month & GO STAGS!!!🤘🏽

Our mission is to connect and celebrate the incredible alumni of color who continue to uplift and inspire the Fairfield University community. We are proud to spotlight an alum whose lifelong dedication to child development, education, and public service has made a national impact. After a meaningful conversation with Dr. Valerie Maholmes ’02, our team is excited to share her remarkable work and impact!

Please join us in applauding Dr. Valerie Maholmes ’02, a distinguished leader in the fields of psychology and child development. Dr. Maholmes completed her Sixth-Year Certificate in Advanced Study through Fairfield’s School Psychology Program after earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Montclair State University and her Ph.D. at Howard University.

Dr. Maholmes currently serves as Chief of the Pediatric Trauma and Critical Illness Branch at The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, supporting vital research and training initiatives across trauma, injury, and critical care. She contributes her expertise to several NIH and federal interagency working groups, helping to advance national efforts in child health and well-being.

Prior to her federal service, Dr. Maholmes spent many years at the Yale School of Medicine’s Child Study Center, where she served as the Irving B. Harris Assistant Professor of Child Psychiatry and directed research and policy for the School Development Program. Her work brought educational, clinical, and technical support services to schools in low-income communities nationwide. In 2003, she was awarded the prestigious Executive Branch Science Policy Fellowship.

Help us celebrate Dr. Maholmes and the incredible impact she’s making every day. Fairfield alumni excellence on full display! ✨
