Welcome to the page for the Child Development and Learning Laboratory at Fairfield University!! This is a developmental psychology lab at Fairfield University run by Dr. Amanda Haber, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences.
Our research is broadly aimed at advancing knowledge of how young children learn during the early childhood years (primarily 4-6 years of age). In particular, our work examines how the language in children’s social interactions with caregivers, teachers, and technology shapes children’s early learning and school readiness skills in multiple contexts (home, book reading, museums, childcare centers). Using a strengths-based approach, we aim to develop new pedagogical approaches to early education and evidenced-based interventions that build on the cultural practices of families to foster the 21st century skills children need to succeed in the workforce today.
