Exciting week for the men’s golf team. We had the opportunity to compete at one of the legendary courses in Pennsylvania — Sunnehanna Country Club. What a beautiful course and an outstanding staff.
Looking back, we may not have achieved the outcome we hoped for, but we saw a tremendous amount of growth over the four days at our first NCAA Regional Tournament appearance in 17 years. I told the guys how proud I am of them and reminded them that this is the beginning of a new era for Fairmont State Golf. These young men have laid the foundation for what’s to come.
Every player had their moments throughout the tournament, but what an impressive three days Nik Tomblin put together. Nik is a tremendous young man who works extremely hard and leads by example both on and off the course. As our captain this season as a junior, I’m excited to see him continue in that leadership role next year.
It was a challenging tournament with brutal winds, cold temperatures, and steady rain, but our guys battled all the way through.
Congratulations to our team, and congratulations as well to University of Charleston and Wheeling University for punching their tickets to the NCAA Championship. Also, congratulations to the Mountain East Conference for sending 2 of the 3 teams to the NCAA Championship for the second straight year.
