SNRS Entomology graduate students Reed Thoma and Maggie Bagatta presented on their research at the Sugarbeet Root Maggot Plot Tour/Field Day near St. Thomas in July!

Reed is investigating the impacts of insecticide/fertilizer/fungicide combinations on sugarbeet root maggot control and plant health, and is advised by Dr. Mark Boetel.

Maggie is studying role of plant volatile organic compounds in mediating sugarbeet root maggot behavior, and is co-advised by Drs. Emily Russavage (USDA-ARS Research Entomologist and NDSU SNRS adjunct assistant professor) and Dr. Boetel.

Publication Alert! Mapping Large-Scale Conservation Wins in Great Plains Grasslands

New research published in Biological Conservation uses nearly four decades of breeding bird data to identify large-scale conservation "wins" and "losses" across the Great Plains. Dillon Fogarty, a co-author on the study and Assistant Professor in the School of Natural Resource Sciences, discussed how this work is essential for informing proactive conservation efforts that aim to protect population strongholds before degradation occurs.
