✨ A little love for our staff member and resident artist, Giulio Angotti, for kicking off the Flakoll Gallery season!

More than just an exhibition, Nothing. Something. Nothing. was an invitation into the process—turning the gallery into a studio and creating a shared space between the artist and the audience.

Although we didn’t have a traditional reception for this exhibition, every day became an artist talk. The gallery evolved night after night as Giulio worked through the process, transforming the space in real time.

What started as five pedestals and a drum of clay became a dance between form and light. A reminder that sometimes the most interesting part of an exhibition is watching the work become.

Every show at SoDAA brings something new, and we hope you had a chance to walk through Nothing. Something. Nothing. before we cleared the gallery and got ready for the next awesome exhibition.

Here’s to another season of making, experimenting, and seeing where the process takes us. 🎨

It’s day 1 of October SoDAA you know what that means…”Inktober” is upon us!

Drop us a picture of your sketchbook in the comments no matter what “-tober” list you’re working through! The world needs more human made art, it’s meant to be shared don’t keep it locked up.

I’m talking to you too architects, landscape architects, interior designers, disaster resilience, emergency managers, and fashion designers! I know some of you got the secret sauce!

Just because you graduated doesn’t mean you’re not still a Bison either….show us what you got alum!

Well, that was quite the gathering of powerhouses. 💪✨

Last night, NDSU WIA hosted their annual panel event, bringing together some of the most prominent local and up-and-coming women in architecture right here at NDSU’s Renaissance Hall.

A massive SoDAA thank you to our panelists — Jen Biewer, Ellie Eichhorn, Tracy Jordre, and Karissa Meiers — for taking the time to join us, share your experiences, and pass along some seriously valuable advice to our future architects. 🏛️

WIA, keep absolutely crushing it. Events like this are what community is all about; connecting students with the people, experiences, and perspectives that help shape the next generation of designers. ❤️

✨ Meet the one, the only… Brenda Luthi! ✨

Brenda is this semester’s Art Education Fellow! 🎨 Each year, SoDAA opens its doors to not one but two local art educators, (one in January and one in July) giving them a studio and free reign to explore our studios, equipment, and resources 24/7.

Although you’ll see Brenda around SoDAA throughout the fall semester, her fellowship actually kicked off back in July! 👀

Take a scroll through Brenda’s work, get to know her a little better, and if you’re stopping by Renaissance Hall during this year’s FMVA Studio Crawl this weekend… keep an eye out! 👀 Brenda will be in the studio creating! 🖌️✨

Meet Isabella Martinez, the designer of the 2026 Homecoming t-shirt!

The School of Design, Architecture and Art senior's design was selected from four finalists to represent this year's Homecoming theme, "Plains to Peak: Climb as One." She drew inspiration from the Badlands, Medora, the Lewis & Clark Trail and the bison of North Dakota.

These shirts will be available for $5 at the Memorial Union while supplies last.

THAT’S RIGHT… not just one… but TWO of our programs were recognized by Course Advisor for absolutely crushing it. 👏👏

Last week, our NDSU Architecture program was also recognized as the Best-Value Architecture Program out of 387 schools assessed! 🏆🏛️

So join us in giving a HUGE congratulations to our Architecture faculty and administration for creating such an amazing program and fostering a culture where creativity and thoughtful design can flourish — all while helping minimize the financial stress on our future architects and designers.

Two programs. Two big honors. Way to do us proud. 💚

So we know we love each and every one of our programs here at SoDAA, but WOW is it sweet when somebody else loves them too. 👏

Let’s give a huge congratulations to our Landscape Architecture Program, its faculty, and administration! Last week, the program was recognized by Course Advisor as the Best-Value Landscape Architecture Program in the United States. 🎉🌱

The metrics they used are a little above our pay grade, but the takeaway is pretty simple: the folks in Landscape Architecture are offering a top-tier education while keeping it affordable.

Big congrats to everyone who makes this program what it is! We’re pretty proud to have you in the SoDAA family. 💚

This past Saturday, our SoDAA leadership team opened the doors and welcomed a whole crew of high school students to our little corner of North Dakota! Students from near and far came to campus to get a taste of life at NDSU and, hopefully, get a glimpse of what their future could look like here at SoDAA.

It’s time to shop some seriously good student artwork! As part of the FMVA Studio Crawl, the NDSU School of Design, Architecture, and Art is opening its doors for a two-day student art sale featuring original work from the talented artists and designers in our community.

Paintings, prints, illustrations, handmade work, and plenty of creative surprises — there’s a little something for everyone. 👀🎨
