On August 25 and 26, Tunxis participated in two days of professional development, during which CT State’s Draft Inaugural Strategic Plan was presented by Dr. Royal and reviewed by breakout groups of faculty and staff.

Taking a moment to be mindful of where we are as a college and what our future has in store lets us continue to bring the highest quality education at the most affordable price to our students—a goal we’re all passionate about.

Thank you to everyone who participated, collaborated, and made these amazing two days possible!

UConn student and CT State Tunxis alumnus Sam Chandler had the honor of working with the Yale School of Public Health over the summer as an intern in the Summer Research Experience in Environmental Health program!

Twelve students were selected for the program—which, for Sam, consisted of diving deeply into the research surrounding occupational pesticide exposure and its long-term neurological effects, as well as pesticides’ link to Alzheimer's disease.

Working closely with Yale faculty, including Dr. Joan Monin of the YSPH Social and Behavioral Sciences Department, Sam connected with a group from the dementia care and research facility, LiveWell. Together, they conducted research, participated in community outreach, and learned from experts in the field. The program also included a two-week intensive boot camp that brought researchers from across the field of public health to teach classes on a wide array of topics.

“I’m so lucky to have had this experience,” Sam said, reflecting on his time at Yale. “Whether it is professors from England, instructors from Athens, or lead researchers right here at Yale, the number of different expert perspectives I got to hear was staggering. I don’t think I’ll ever forget my time here, the research I helped conduct, or the people I met. I also know I will never forget how Tunxis helped me get to where I am—and I will always be grateful to the good people there who never stop investing in the students.”

Stacey Beasley of CT State Tunxis and CT State Naugatuck Valley had the honor of going to the Oxford Consortium for Human Rights over the summer! For one week, Stacey was fully immersed in the latest discussions and research regarding AI and human rights.

As a paralegal major, Stacey has a strong passion for advocacy, saying, “I grew up in Waterbury, where there is a large homeless population. I knew, in some way, I wanted to do what I could to help—to advocate for what I know is important.”

Though he originally thought his place would be in a medical facility, after taking some classes and meeting the passionate paralegal faculty at CT State, he discovered a passion for advocacy through the legal system.

Now, Stacey looks forward to law school after he finishes his bachelor's degree at Central Connecticut State University.

We can’t wait to see where you go next, Stacey! You are bound for greatness, and your time in Oxford is one more way to help set you up for that bright future.
