American College of Diabetology There are currently 6 diabetes fellowship programs in the United States. They have been in existence for over 10 years.

The American College of Diabetology is a physician led nonprofit organization passionate about management of diabetes mellitus with the goal of maintaining high standards in diabetes clinical care, to improve the lives of those affected by diabetes. The CDC has projected that 1 in 3 Americans will develop diabetes should the current trends continue. There are not enough endocrinologists to meet this need and Primary care physicians are overburdened with the other chronic diseases of a patient. Our goal is to train physicians with excellent diabetes management skills to fight this epidemic. Please seen our websites for more information. Our team recently attended the inaugural Breakthrough T1D Clinical & Research Congress, where researchers, clinicians and advocates joined together to share ideas and explore the latest advances in t1d.

Between sessions, we made time to visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art and grabbed a photo with the famous Rocky Balboa statue!

The session will feature a 30-minute presentation followed by an interactive Q&A, offering diabetology fellows, ACD members and others an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and engage in discussion.

Dr. Richard Pratley is an internationally recognized diabetes expert and serves as the AdventHealth Samuel E. Crockett Chair in Diabetes Research, Medical Director of the AdventHealth Diabetes Institute and Senior Investigator and Diabetes Program Lead at the AdventHealth Translational Research Institute in Orlando, Florida. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Johns Hopkins Medicine).

There are now 15 Diabetology fellowship programs across the country! 🎉

For medical students and residents interested in specializing in diabetes care, that means more opportunities to build expertise in one of the fastest growing sub-specialties and make a meaningful impact in the lives of those living with diabetes.

This year, ACD provided one-time seed funding to support the launch of a new Diabetology fellowship program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.

Abbott Diabetes also sponsored seed funding for an additional new program, establishing a Diabetology fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

These programs are helping expand the pathway for the next generation of diabetes specialists, equipping physicians with the specialized knowledge and hands-on experience needed to advance diabetes care.
