The Run For A Million, one of reining’s most prestigious events, makes its major television broadcast debut on CBS this Saturday, August 22, at 8 p.m. The University of Findlay and the Findlay community share a special connection to the sport, as Dale Wilkinson, founder of UF’s nationally recognized equestrian program, is widely recognized as one of the founders of modern reining. Many consider Findlay to be a birthplace of the sport.
For those unfamiliar with equestrian competition, reining is often described as the western riding equivalent of figure skating. Horse and rider perform a precise pattern featuring circles, spins, sliding stops, lead changes, and other maneuvers that demonstrate athleticism, responsiveness, and the partnership between horse and rider. Combining speed, precision, and elegance, reining has become one of the most exciting and widely recognized western equestrian disciplines.
As the University celebrates 50 years of equestrian excellence, we invite faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends to gather and celebrate this historic moment together.
