Three music teachers from the Humanities Department/Foundation Music Lesson Program received Grants for Artist-Teacher Outreach (GATO) awards to give performances, workshops and masterclasses at local schools.

Violinist Hildur Schilling performed and conducted the ensemble that accompanied the Leominster All-City Chorus at Samoset Middle School in their Holiday Concert on December 13, 2012. The chorus is comprised of Elementary, Middle, and High School students.

Soprano Maria Ferrante gave a vocal master class for voice majors at Burncoat High School in Worcester, on November 20th 2012. Over sixty students, faculty and parents were in attendance. The students were chosen from a pool of vocal students by Deb Cole, the band and music teacher at Burncoat High. The event was publicized on the Worcester Public School’s Web Net and their Social Web Net as well.

Pianist Roy Imperio accompanied Maria and the students and then played a brilliant Chopin Etude which was really thrilling for all in attendance. He also worked on piano technique with individual students.

More GATO initiatives are planned for the spring semester.
