Dr. Katy Covino with three of our secondary education students: Laura Hildick, Kaitlynn Chase, and Heather Ferguson. These three students were awarded a Women in Today’s Society (WITS) honorarium for speaking at the New England American Studies Conference on June 8th. Congratulations to you all!

The WITS funds are managed by the Fitchburg State University Foundation. The fund was started by Dr. Michele Zide, former Dean of Graduate and Continuing Education.

“It’s also interesting that although it’s a popular target of those who insist that a college education should connect to a good job, majors in “Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies, and Humanities” left a scant 18,824 underemployed grads in 2016. “English Language and Literature/Letters” had just 16,422 underemployed. And the major with the fewest underemployed graduates, according to the report, was “Foreign Languages, Literature, and Linguistics.”

These numbers compared to 186,339 underemployed Business and Marketing majors.
