🎥 The Indigenous Histories of the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands Teach-In is now available on YouTube!

Hosted by NAU’s Department of History and the Institute for Native-serving Educators (INE), this three-day online institute brought together Indigenous faculty and leading historians to explore Indigenous histories of the U.S.-Mexico Borderlands, Native American history, and culturally sustaining pedagogy.

The sessions offer educators opportunities to deepen their understanding and consider ways to center Indigenous histories, themes, and ways of knowing in their classrooms.

The INE had a wonderful opportunity to promote the Teaching in Indigenous Communities Certificate Program at the NAU College of Education Welcome Back Event. This program helps prepare future educators to effectively support Indigenous students through culturally responsive and sustaining practices, while strengthening their capacity to create inclusive and meaningful learning environments for all students.

Abstract : This presentation will engage the audience in discourse about how to develop an undergraduate research course that centers Indigenous Peoples’ perspectives in classes and curriculum for first/second year students. The conversation will be guided by the presenter focusing on Indigenous Direct Action (Benally), relationality, land education, Indigenous Research Methods, narratives, decolonization, and more.
