Grand Standard Bearer WB Derald Hogeland

Born in Montana, he spent part of his childhood in Florida before returning West. At an early age, he left Montana for Wyoming and began working in construction—a career that would remain a major part of his life for decades.

Over the years, he worked with a number of companies, including Morgan & Ozwood, Sletten Construction, C&H Construction, Reece Angell Rowe Architects, and Maverick Masonry. After a lifetime of following construction projects wherever the work took him, he finally stopped “chasing the jobs” in 2016 and came home to Arizona.

He was raised a Master Mason in Flagstaff Lodge No. 7 in 2018 and later affiliated with Aztlan Lodge No. 1 and Williams-Grand Canyon Lodge No. 38. He remains very active in Masonry throughout the Flagstaff and Northern Arizona area and is always willing to lend a hand—although, by his own admission, climbing ladders may not be his strongest skill.

Today we honored two remarkable Brothers for their dedication to the Craft.

WB Jim Harvel, 60 years as a Master Mason.
Bro. Jerry Lively, 50 years as a Master Mason.

For decades, these men have served, mentored, guided, and strengthened our lodge. Their lives remind us that Freemasonry is carried forward by Brothers who faithfully give of themselves.

The 144th Grand Communication has concluded, and Flagstaff No. 7 was well represented.

Congratulations to Most Worshipful Brother Roger Biede, who was elected Grand Master of Masons in Arizona for the 2026/2027 Masonic year, and to our very own Right Worshipful Reed Houge, who was elected Junior Grand Warden.

We are also proud to recognize several Brothers from our Lodge who received Grand Lodge appointments: Worshipful Brother Brad Ingram as District Deputy Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Justin Nelson as District Deputy Grand Lecturer, and Brother Derald Hogeland as Grand Standard Bearer.

Flagstaff No. 7 also brought home several Lodge-level awards, including the Master Architect Award, Best Trestleboard Award, beautifully edited by our Treasurer, Brother John Kains, and Best Website, overseen by our webmaster and Assistant Secretary, Brother Zach Nelson.

It was a wonderful showing for Flagstaff No. 7, and we are grateful for the hard work, dedication, and brotherhood that made it possible. Proud of our Lodge and proud of our Brothers.
