🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Hiba Wehbe-Alamah, recipient of the 2026 Alvin D. Loving Senior Faculty Initiative Award! Named in honor of UM-Flint founding faculty member Dr. Alvin D. Loving - the campus’s first tenured minority faculty member - the award recognizes a highly valued senior faculty member who demonstrates distinguished scholarship, excellence in teaching, generous service, a commitment to diversity and dedication to supporting faculty development and retention in a diverse workforce.

Dr. Wehbe-Alamah was formally recognized at the annual UM-Flint Convocation, which also celebrated the exceptional accomplishments of faculty and staff from across the University. The event showcased the remarkable contributions our colleagues make through teaching, research, innovation, service and community engagement.

We proudly congratulate Dr. Wehbe-Alamah and all the faculty and staff whose dedication and achievements strengthen our university community and make a lasting impact locally and globally. 💙💛

Join us in congratulating Nathan Wolf, who, as part of his Nursing Leadership course, completed a project about implementing changes to the way compound pharmaceuticals are delivered to critical care units. As an RN to BSN student, he was working in a CVICU position while completing the course and was frustrated at how, for many patients in his unit, getting compound medications was inconvenient and time-consuming. With some patients needing these medications frequently, that was extra time spent away bedside care.

After reviewing legal, regulatory and safety measures, he was able to suggest changes that would make it possible for nurses to get more than one dose at a time, improving their workflow and their ability to provide more direct bedside care. These changes were ultimately implemented across critical care units at University of Michigan Health-Sparrow. Great job in positively impacting patient care!

FINE prepares the next generation of nursing leaders to shape reimbursement, payment reform and healthcare decision-making - translating clinical expertise into economic insight that advances the value of nursing.

“Being selected as a FINE Fellow is an incredible honor,” Christi said. “I’m especially excited to explore ways to advance fair, adequate reimbursement for the essential services nurses provide, while building connections and bringing this learning back to support my colleagues, organizations and patients.”

🩺✨ Celebrating the next generation of nurses! Our Fall 2026 BSN Induction Ceremony marked an important milestone for our students as they begin their journey into the nursing profession. The ceremony represents their commitment to compassionate, ethical and patient-centered care - and to the responsibility, integrity and lifelong learning that define nursing.

A special thank-you to the Student Nurses Association (SNA) for organizing this meaningful celebration and bringing our community together. Congratulations to all our inductees as they take this exciting next step toward becoming tomorrow’s nursing leaders! 💙

Recently our Center for Simulation and Clinical Innovation (CSCI) team attended the SimGHOSTS 2026 USA Conference at Saginaw Valley State University! The team explored the latest innovations in healthcare simulation and exchanged insights and best practices with experts from across the field. These emerging technologies and hands-on solutions help keep our sim center at the forefront of an ever-evolving landscape!

We are proud to celebrate School of Nursing faculty and student representation at the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Conference in Oklahoma City. SON faculty members Carman Turkelson, Megan Keiser, Denise Campbell and Janelle Chopp attended the conference, with undergraduate student Brendan Nelson also contributing to the School’s presence through accepted abstract work.

🔷 Carman Turkelson, Denise Campbell, Megan Keiser and UG student Brendan Nelson had an abstract accepted as a 15-minute Lightning Round presentation: “Exploring Mixed Reality to Enhance Pathophysiology Learning in Pre-Nursing Students.”

🔷 Megan Keiser and Carman Turkelson had abstracts accepted as 45-minute podium presentations: “Expanding Access, Enhancing Practice: Leveraging Simulation to Prepare Nurses for Rural Healthcare Challenges” and “Exploring the Usability of a Mixed Reality Simulation-Based Experience to Teach Trauma-Informed Care.”

🔷 Denise Campbell and Janelle Chopp had an abstract accepted as a 45-minute podium presentation: “From Script to Simulation: Preparing Standardized Patients for Success.”

As INACSL continues to advance the science of healthcare simulation, our faculty, staff and students remain committed to bringing new skills, knowledge and expertise back to SON. Their participation reflects our dedication to strengthening nursing education, expanding simulation-based learning and preparing students with the confidence and skills needed to lead in today’s healthcare settings.

SON Student Success Coordinator Libby Bell recently attended the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's Access, Connection, Engagement (ACE) Symposium in Charlotte, NC, where academic nursing professionals gathered to build connections, strengthen relationships and explore strategies that support nursing education.

Feeling inspired and rejuvenated, Libby is bringing back new ideas and resources to continue supporting student success in nursing. 💙

That’s a wrap on our 2026 Future Nurse Summer Camp! 🩺✨

Over the course of two exciting days, campers explored the world of nursing through hands-on activities and interactive learning experiences. They practiced taking vital signs, learned CPR and other essential nursing skills, heard from nurses across a variety of specialties, participated in a mini health fair hosted by current UM-Flint Nursing students, listened to a student panel, completed a scavenger hunt and so much more!

This camp would not have been possible without the incredible support of our faculty, staff, students, volunteers, guest speakers and, of course, our amazing campers. Thank you to everyone who helped make this experience such a success.

Future Nurse Summer Camp is designed to introduce high school students to the many possibilities within the nursing profession, and we hope our campers left feeling inspired, encouraged and excited about their futures. We loved having you with us and hope to see you back at UM-Flint as nursing students one day! 💙💛
