The Distinguished Alumni and Outstanding Retiree Awards Dinner recognizes honorees for their significant service and contributions to the college and the greater community.

The Distinguished Alumni Award was first established in 2002 to recognize exemplary alumni who have attended the College throughout its various names, including Flint Junior College, Flint Community College and Genesee Community College.

Proceeds benefit MCC's Alumni Student Assistance Scholarship. Opportunities for corporate sponsorship and advertising in the event program are also available to support this scholarship fund.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Jordan Beard

Jordan Beard turned her love for self-expression into a vibrant, thriving cosmetology career in downtown Flint!

After visiting Mott Community College, Jordan knew MCC's one-year Cosmetology Certificate program was the perfect fit. What set Mott apart for her was its focus on diversity, teaching students how to work with a wide range of hair textures, types, and specialized techniques like braiding that many traditional beauty schools skip.
"I didn't want to be limited to working with one hair type. I wanted to learn different techniques and be able to work with different people. Mott offered more diversity."

Through hands-on training in MCC's on-campus public salon and mentorship from seasoned faculty, Jordan mastered everything from hair chemistry and safety to the art of client connection. After earning her license, she even worked alongside her former MCC instructor before stepping into her current role at a creative salon in downtown Flint!

Today, Jordan specializes in vivid colors, unique cuts, specialty braids, and inclusive styling, frequently giving back to the community at local events like Flint Pride. She even returns to MCC to give live demonstrations to the next generation of stylists!

Whether you're looking to launch a creative career or master diverse styling techniques, Jordan’s story shows where an MCC Cosmetology certificate can take you!

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Kyle Makin

From Linden High School to reporting on his hometown, Kyle Makin found his path in storytelling!

After discovering his passion for broadcast news, Kyle chose Mott Community College to complete his general studies debt-free while balancing full-time work. Thanks to inspiring peers and dedicated faculty, Kyle built a solid academic foundation before transferring to complete his degree.

After reporting at WLNS 6 News in Lansing, Kyle returned home to Genesee County to focus on telling positive, impactful stories about his own community.

"Mott helped me become a better student before I ever set foot on a university campus. If you don't have a full scholarship, Mott is one of the best ways to save money and still get a great education."

Please join us on Monday, October 12, at 10:00 a.m. for the 34th Annual Peace and Dignity Ceremony on the Court Street Lawn at Mott Community College.

Following the ceremony, a Q&A session and luncheon will be held immediately afterward in the Multi-Purpose Room at the Lenore Croudy Family Life Center.

We invite you to join us as we come together in peace, dignity, and community.
