The Political Science program at FMU offers its majors a broad understanding of political phenomena, including political institutions, political processes, political behavior, and contemporary political issues. Graduates with a major in political science receive the broad training and develop the general competence in the discipline required to equip them for successful careers in journalism, poli

tics, the military, public service, and quasi-public agencies, commerce and industry, teaching, and other occupations for which preparation in the field is desirable, or to undertake postgraduate professional study in political science, public administration, or related areas such as law.

This Constitution Day, the Department of Political Science and Geography invites you to a fun and educational campus-wide event:

Supreme Court Term Limits: A Campus Constitutional Convention
Date: September 17th, 2025 (Constitution Day!)
Time: 3:00 PM
Location: Lowrimore Auditorium
Open to all members of the community

In this live simulation, faculty and audience members will step into the role of constitutional delegates, debating whether Supreme Court Justices should be limited to a single 18-year term. The audience plays a vital part—your vote will help decide the outcome!

The Department of Political Science will be hosting two upcoming events over the next two months. We look forward to seeing you there!

-Constitution Day "Pub-Style" Trivia: For our annual observance of Constitution Day, the Department will be hosting a "pub-style" trivia tournament on campus for students, faculty, and the public. There will be prizes and refreshments available. September 19th from 400pm to 530pm in FH222a.

-USC Law School Information Session: Admissions counselors from University of South Carolina law school will be on campus to host an information session about strategies for applying to law schools, legal careers, and USC's law program. This is open to students of all majors. October 17th from 230pm-345pm in LNB room 214.

Many congrats to Dr. White!

Be sure to congratulate FMU Professor of Political Science, Dr. David White, for being awarded the 2023 Harry M. Lightsey Fellowship by the Baruch Foundation at Hobcaw Barony!

Dr. White will use his Fellowship to begin to reconstruct visits to Hobcaw Barony by important political figures, like Winston Churchill and FDR. HIs work will be conducted under our Belle Baruch Institute for South Carolina Studies (BISCS). We can't wait to see what he discovers!
