African & African American Studies - AAAS The African & African American Studies program at Francis Marion University focuses on the study of peoples of African descent in Africa and around the world.

The African and African American Studies (AAAS) program at Francis Marion University is a vibrant community of students and faculty of all backgrounds who are interested in the study of peoples of African descent and their experiences in Africa, the Americas, and the rest of the African Diaspora. The AAAS program provides students with unique course offerings through a minor or collateral while al

lowing them to cultivate the cultural intelligence necessary for today’s careers in the Pee Dee, South Carolina, and beyond. AAAS students also gain hands-on experiences outside the classroom to further hone the skills of analysis and expression required to serve their communities in future careers.

Evening College returns with ten courses this fall! Courses begin the week of August 24 and meet weekly for 11 weeks.

• Palmetto Predators: Serial Killers and Other Criminal Behavior in South Carolina taught by Dr. Beckie Flannagan
• Songwriting & Recording Workshop taught by Dr. Brandon Goff
• Modern Homesteading taught by Dr. Greg Pryor
• South Carolina on the Silver Screen taught by Dr. Shawn Smolen-Morton
• Photography: Make Not Take Better Photos taught by Professor Julie Mixon
• FMU: History and Stories taught by Dr. Carlanna Hendrick
• Business Writing for the Professional taught by Dr. Christine Masters-Wheeler
• Exploring the Potential of AI taught by Dr. Johnathan Munn

The FMU Evening College program is for professional and personal development. Evening College credits are not applicable to degree programs. All courses are taught by existing or former faculty of the university. President and Mrs. Carter are sponsoring these courses as an outreach to the community. Therefore, students can pay an enrollment fee of $10 per course.
