Preparing the Next Generation of Nurses for Disaster Response! π¨
Beckfield College was honored to welcome Ptl. Amanda Armstrong of the Lakeside Park Crestview Hills Police Department and her therapy K9, Timo, to our NUR 431 Disaster Nursing course, taught by Dr. Sara Mohn, Dean of Nursing.
With extensive law enforcement experience and specialized certifications in SWAT crisis negotiation, emergency medical services, and peer support, Officer Armstrong shared valuable insights into crisis response, mental health, and the importance of supporting individuals during challenging situations.
πΎ Timo brought an extra dose of comfort and compassion! As a therapy K9, Timo helps remind people that they are not alone and that they are lovedβa powerful message for future nurses who will care for individuals and communities during disasters and emergencies.
We are grateful to Officer Armstrong and Timo for sharing their expertise, dedication, and compassion with our future nurses!
