Spooky Week: October 19 - October 22

Spooky Week is here at the Innovation Center (FL130). We're getting ready for Halloween with little pumpkins and some handmade decorations. Throughout the week, help us decorate the space by making low-res bats, ghosts, or heads in jars. Make something cute, creepy, or somewhere in between.

Pumpkin Needle Felting
Monday and Tuesday, 10:00am - 4:30pm
Learn how to use needle felting to create your own little light-up pumpkin. Stop by during the day and try turning some fluffy fibers into a seasonal friend.

Prop Tongues
Wednesday, 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Use gelatin to create a realistic prop tongue for a costume, a spooky project, or just because making a tongue is a strange way to spend your Wednesday. Learn how the process works and give it a try.

Annual Halloween Party
Thursday, October 29, 10:00am - 4:30pm
Our annual Halloween party is coming up next week on the 29th! Swing by for activities throughout the day, including a costume runway and spooky crafting, or just hang out with the community. Costumes are highly encouraged!

FLC was proud to host yesterday’s Folsom Focus: State of Education event. Thank you to Choose Folsom for presenting the event and to our K–16 partners at Folsom Cordova Unified School District and Sacramento State for working alongside us to help students succeed from kindergarten through college and into their careers.

It was a pleasure to bring educators, business leaders, and community members together to hear from FLC President Dr. Art Pimentel, FCUSD Superintendent Erik Swanson, and Sac State President Dr. Luke Wood about the future of education in our region.

You don't have to travel far to explore the universe! The Community Observatory at FLC's El Dorado Center offers free stargazing through large telescopes and an open-air Sky Theater. The observatory is earning some stellar recognition, too! Sactown Magazine named it the "Best Out-of-This-World Community Observatory", one of its Best of the City 2026 picks.

Opened by the Rotary Club of Cameron Park in 2006, the all-volunteer observatory has welcomed an estimated 160,000-plus visitors. Head volunteer docent Gordon Dolfie (pictured) recently shared the magic of the experience in an Abridged PBS "Meet Your Neighbors" feature: "You see the sense of wonder on people's faces."

Experience that wonder for yourself on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Check the observatory's website for weather-related closures before heading out. Admission is free. Parking permits are required; $2 daily permits are available at campus kiosks.
