JMC PhD candidate Lucy Chalgren has received three competitive honors for her scholarship and leadership in science communication and behavior change.

For 2026-2027, she will be Colorado State University Vice President for Research Graduate Fellow and a CSU School of Global Environmental Sustainability Diana Wall Sustainability Leadership Fellow. Additionally, she received a grant from the Society for Conservation Biology.

These fellowships and grant will support her dissertation research, professional development, and leadership capacity in conservation social science. She aims to advance a theoretical model for behavior change in conservation contexts wherein recreational activities cause unintended harm to protected species.

Her work is part of a larger collaborative project with her advisor between CSU and Florida State University addressing a critical conservation issue for Florida’s sea turtles using communication and behavior change science.

You can follow part of the summer communication efforts at which just launched last week.
