2022 is the start of a new adventure! Today was my last day on campus after nearly 20 years of school & employment with UCD. I’ve absolutely loved serving as Associate Director of the VIRC over the past 3 years. I’ve met countless inspiring individuals, have made great friends and great relationships with our clinical trial pups & families. I’ll never forget my time here and how much I’ve learned. I truly will miss everyone!
Please continue to follow the VIRC and watch the amazing crew’s journey with regenerative medicine and the power it has to help people & pets. It’s been a true pleasure working with everyone!

Guess who took time out of her busy day to pay us a visit! We saw Miss Pippo today for her follow up! Pippo is our VIP (very important pet) because she doesn’t have . She’s helping us out by demonstrating how without Spina Bifida walk so that we can compare how well our novel is working. Thank you Pippo & family for serving this very special purpose!

🚨Introducing…… Pippo❣️ This sweet baby girl will be future graduate #1 in the class of 2022!
Pippo is truly a VIP (very important patient) because she’s volunteering her precious time showing us how a bulldog who does not have Spina Bifida walks! She will serve as our 2nd non Spina Bifida pup in this study. Without her participation, we’d have no way to compare traits of bulldogs with SB to those without which will further let us know how well our stem cell treatment is working in SB pups.

A huge congratulations to our VIRC members who attended the annual North American Veterinary Regenerative Medicine Association conference (NAVRMA) this past week at ‘s Translational Medicine Institute.
VIRC members gave 5 podium lectures and 3 poster presentations demonstrating our impact, leadership and reputation in veterinary regenerative medicine both nationally and internationally.
A special congratulations to for winning two very competitive awards for best poster and best oral presentation 🥇 🥇.

Is Winston dressed for The Met 🤣? Maybe sporting an early Halloween costume? Nope! He has harmless, removeable little anatomy markers on his fur that allow us to visualize his movement, joints & angles from the outside. Part of our is to determine how walking has improved with . Mr Winston here was kind enough to take time out of his busy day to help us out. He was certainly rewarded with endless affection & maybe a few treats 😉.

Our FDA approved that uses a novel approach to help improve mobility in is still open & enrolling!
We are looking for English Bulldogs who are less than 10 weeks old displaying signs of spina bifida (trouble with walking/movement & who are incontinent).
We are also looking for normal healthy English Bulldogs who are less than a year old that we can photograph & video walking (must be able to come to UC Davis for a short appointment).

WE NEED YOUR HELP! This sweet tortoiseshell cat was transferred to last week from Plumas County Animal Services. She has several burn injuries from the , but is in the best hands with our veterinarians and specialists.

Help us share this post and find her owners! She is about 4.5 lbs, estimated age is 1 year old, and is likely a domestic medium hair tortoiseshell.

We are critically low on DEA 1.1 negative blood and are asking all eligible blood donors to schedule an appointment with the UC Davis Veterinary Blood Bank by calling (530) 752-1393.

The blood bank plays a vital role in our hospital, providing blood products to patients in their times of need. Whether it’s to replenish blood lost during a traumatic accident or during a life-saving operation, the blood bank supports our veterinarians as they care for critically ill dogs. But we could not do it without our donors! Blood cannot be created in a lab and must come from a healthy eligible donor — something that is true for all species.
