Front Range Student Ecology Symposium

Front Range Student Ecology Symposium FRSES is a student-run symposium that provides an opportunity for Front Range students doing research in ecology to showcase their work and network.

FRSES is a student-run symposium that provides an opportunity for Front Range students doing research in ecology to showcase their work and network in a friendly and supportive peer environment. Highlights of the event include a keynote address by an engaging invited speaker, a full day of poster and oral presentation sessions, an awards banquet to recognize exceptional student work, and a social

gathering to celebrate the success of our participating students. The FRSES also features a lively lunchtime panel discussion related to the annual theme.

FRSES has begun! Here's another research highlight, this one from Karina Sanchez who presents early Friday morning:

"How will bird songs respond in a world of rapid urbanization and habitat change? We cannot see into the future, but we can use historical data to explore this question today! "

Can you believe that FRSES starts tomorrow?! Here's a sneak peek from one of the poster presenters, Laurel Sindewald!
"High-resolution (1.2 m) multispectral satellite imagery can be used to discriminate dominant vegetation species with overall accuracies of 70-85%. We are developing methodology to apply this approach to estimating species distributions at treeline in Rocky Mountain National Park, including areas that are dangerous or difficult to access, to provide data for future modeling work."

FRSES is less than a week away! Don't miss out on amazing research like this talk from Austin Nash:

"Conservation practitioners need a way to cheaply and rapidly project range shifts due to climate change. Using Wyoming ground squirrels as a study system, Austin will talk about how museum specimens, resurveys, and citizen science data can be integrated to produce occupancy and species distribution models informed by ecological theory to produce spatially explicit predictions of range loss due to climate change."
