Meet our CSU Construction Management Summer Standout student, Charlie Beelaert (Charlie Beelaert)!👷‍♀️🏗️

Charlie is building his future this summer with Whiting-Turner in Aspen, Colorado. 🏔️Supporting two hospitality projects, Charlie has gained experience in everything from quality control and project closeout to preconstruction and subcontractor coordination. Read on to learn more about his summer in the field and behind the scenes ➡️

Q: How are you applying what you’ve learned from your studies to this summer experience?
A: Every day I get to apply something from my studies in CM to the real world. It can range from writing RFIs, submittals, reading construction documents and drawings, helping write subcontracts, and estimating. There have been many moments where I’ve already known the answer to something because of my classes and previous internship experience.

Q: What is your favorite part about your summer experience?
A: My favorite part of working with WT this summer has been the incredible people I get to work with every day. Whether CSU alumni, other CSU interns, or the company’s atmosphere as a whole, this summer has been filled with great relationships. I’ve also enjoyed working in the Roaring Fork Valley and enjoying life in the mountains on really complex and rewarding projects. Our intern group has stayed busy hiking, biking, camping, going to rodeos, concerts, and more.

Q: What communities or groups of people do you hope to impact in your eventual career and life?
A: hope to help manage community-facing projects in higher ed, K-12, hospitality, and the public sector. It’s really cool to see a project come to life and see people use and interact in a new space that you helped build.

Be patient! There’s lots of Rams moving in at once, take the time to enjoy unpacking your room

Get involved! And don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Enjoy as much as you can cause time literally will fly by.

It’s okay to ask for help! Go to office hours and take advantage of all the resources!

Be Aware of how fast the transition from welcome week to class is.

Creating meaningful impact through occupational therapy 💚

This summer, Ella Hardesty is completing her fieldwork at Garcia House, an inpatient behavioral health and substance use treatment center. One of her biggest projects has been helping expand Hidden Rack, a client-run clothing resource that provides essential items while creating opportunities to build work skills, confidence, and independence.

As an Occupational Therapy student, Ella is putting her passion for client-centered care into practice and helping create a lasting impact for the Garcia House community. Read on to learn more about Ella’s summer experience ➡️

Q: How are you applying what you’ve learned from your studies to this summer experience?
A: Everything we’ve been learning about client-centered, occupation-based care in the OT program has come to life during this experience. I’ve been able to apply occupational therapy principles by creating opportunities for clients to build executive functioning, work readiness, social participation, and daily living skills through meaningful occupations.

Q: What is your favorite part about your summer experience?
A: Without a doubt, the people. I’ve loved getting to work alongside such an incredible interdisciplinary team and learning from professionals with different backgrounds and perspectives. It’s also been SO rewarding to build relationships with clients and watch them grow throughout their time at Garcia House. Helping expand Hidden Rack into a resource that will continue making a difference for future clients has made the experience even more special.

Q: What communities or groups of people do you hope to impact in your eventual career and life?
A: I’m super passionate about supporting people through some of life’s biggest transitions. This summer has strengthened my passion for working in behavioral health, mental health, and substance use recovery, and it’s shown me how meaningful occupational therapy can be in helping people rebuild routines, confidence, and a sense of purpose.

This summer, Connor Griepentrog (Connor Griepentrog) has been gaining hands-on experience right here on campus as an intern with Haselden Construction. Working on the Clark Building project, Connor is helping shape the spaces where future Rams will learn, connect, and grow.

Q: How are you applying what you’ve learned from your studies to this summer experience?
A: So far, having some background knowledge of Bluebeam and Procore has been extremely helpful. Many of the concepts covered in class directly support the work I do each day, and I am grateful to have that foundation as I continue learning in the field.

Q: What is your favorite part about your summer experience?
A: My favorite part of this summer has been working with such an amazing team while contributing to a project right here on the CSU campus. It has been especially rewarding to help improve a place that is part of my own university community.

Q: What communities or groups of people do you hope to impact in your eventual career and life?
A: I hope to positively impact students, construction professionals, and the communities where I work. I want to help create safe, high-quality spaces that people can use and enjoy for many years. I also hope to support future interns and young professionals by sharing what I learn and helping them grow in the construction industry.

Meet our CSU Design and Merchandising Summer Standout student /Ella Snyder (Ella Snyder)📐🖼️
This summer, Ella is interning with the Institute for the Built Environment (IBE), where she’s building her knowledge of sustainable design, earning her LEED Green Associate Credential, and gaining hands-on experience with real-world certification projects.

One of the highlights of her summer has been serving as project manager for the Lifelong Homes and Community Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Design Competition. Through a grant from AARP, Ella and her team have worked with a real client to create affordable, sustainable, and buildable housing solutions that could make an impact across Colorado and beyond.

Q: How are you applying what you’ve learned in Interior Architecture and Design to this summer experience?

A: This summer I have been able to apply a lot of my learning to the ADU Design Challenge, whether its relevant code knowledge, graphic design skills, or knowledge of accessible and human centered design.

Q: What is your favorite part about your summer experience?

A: My favorite part of my summer experience is getting the chance to participate in design charettes. They are a fantastic way to really boost interdisciplinary collaboration and the provide the chance for both new and experienced professionals to have to chance to teach each other and focus on creative possibilities for a project.

Q: What communities or groups of people do you hope to impact in your eventual career and life?

A: Most of my studies have been focused on sustainability within the built environment, I think that this approach to my career impacts everyone through both environmental and social sustainability. Working with Lifelong Homes and Communities has given me the chance to see how homes and communities make a world of difference for people of all ages being able to lead a sustainable lifestyle and have the ability to have more autonomy over the things that they care about.

Q: How are you applying what you’ve learned in CM to this summer experience?

A: One of the biggest things I’ve applied from CM is scheduling and learning how to look ahead. In class, we’ve talked about how important planning and coordination are to a project’s success, and this summer I’ve been able to see that firsthand.

A lot of my role has involved looking ahead to upcoming work, coordinating inspections, making sure materials and subcontractors are ready, and identifying potential issues before they impact the schedule.

Q: What is your favorite part about your summer experience?

A: My favorite part about this summer has been the location and the people. Spending the summer in the mountains has been awesome. The weather is usually in the 70s, and my drive to work every morning has some pretty incredible views.

I’ve been lucky to be part of a great project team that has taught me a lot and given me opportunities to take on real responsibility. I’ve also built strong relationships with many of the subcontractors on site.

Getting to know the people doing the work every day and learning from their experience has probably been the most rewarding part of the internship. The combination of a great team, great people, and a great location has made this a summer I’ll never forget.

Q: What communities do you hope to positively impact in your eventual career?

A: I hope to make an impact on young people, especially those from low-income communities and communities of color, by showing them that construction is a great career path.

I'd like to help bring more awareness to both sides of the industry and show that there are many different paths to a successful career in construction!

Meet CSU Health & Exercise Science Ram, Kat Lach (Kat) our latest Summer Standout who is on her way to becoming a pediatric occupational therapist!

Kat has always wanted to work in healthcare, and choosing Health and Exercise Science helps her get closer to her career goal of becoming an OT 💚

This summer, Kat is completing her full-time internship with Strides Pediatric Therapy in Eagle Mountain, Utah, where she works alongside occupational therapists, physical therapists, and mental health counselors, while gaining experience with pediatric therapy, hippotherapy, and feeding therapy!

Q: How are you applying what you’ve learned from your studies to this summer experience?

A: I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learned in my Health and Exercise Science courses by observing movement, development, and functional skills in pediatric therapy sessions. My coursework has helped me better understand anatomy, biomechanics, and child development, making it easier to connect classroom concepts to real-life patient care. It’s been rewarding to see how the knowledge I’ve gained at CSU translates directly into a clinical setting.

Q: What is your favorite part about your summer experience?

A: My favorite part has been seeing the progress clients make over time and learning from such a collaborative team of occupational therapists, physical therapists, and mental health counselors. Every day is different, and it’s exciting to see the positive impact therapy can have on children and their families.

Q: What communities or groups of people do you hope to impact in your eventual career and life?

A: I hope to make a positive impact on children and their families by helping them develop the skills and confidence they need to participate in everyday life. As a future pediatric occupational therapist, I want to support children of all abilities while advocating for inclusive, compassionate, and family-centered care that helps them reach their full potential.
