This summer, Professor John Gravdahl taught Graphic Design Illustration and led students in developing themed promotional programs for the CSU Brain Research Center at the CSU Veterinary Health System Vet Center. Their Summer Semester work will be considered for future implementation. It was a very rewarding experience for students and clients alike!

Internship Spotlight! Meet Natalie Cronin (she/her), a BFA Printmaking student at CSU. This summer she is interning at The Beet Education Center at the Loveland Museum, where she is gaining experience with the day-to-day operations of a community print shop and developing professional skills beyond creating artwork. She first became involved as a volunteer and was able to turn that experience into an internship.

This opportunity has helped Natalie gain valuable experience in studio management, arts education, and community engagement, all of which will support her future goals as an artist.
During her time at CSU, she has focused on developing her printmaking practice while participating in exhibitions and becoming involved in the broader arts community. She was also honored to receive an Honorable Mention in CSU’s inaugural President’s Art Prize this past spring!

Internship Spotlight! Meet Aidan Buxman, a second year majoring in Studio Arts with a concentration in printmaking and minoring in zoology. This is Aidan’s first year at CSU, and he currently play Right Wing for the CSU Team Handball Club.

He has 2 internships this year. The first is wirh Special Olympics Colorado, and he is mostly in charge of creating the Special Olympics Colorado Magazine, of which he is the Creative Director. Special Olympics aims to dismantle the stigma, isolation, and injustice faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities by promoting acceptance and full social participation. He has been involved in SOCO for about 5 years as an athlete playing sports, as well as being a member of the athlete leadership board. Due to his position on the leadership board, the design team asked if he wanted to help design the magazine. He was originally in a team role, but since Aidan is an art major, he had a lot of interest in the magazine, and he was asked to be an intern. This internship will help him prepare for after college by giving him a different idea of what he can do with his art degree.

In addition to Special Olympics Colorado, he is also a social media Intern for USA Team Handball, and in that role, he is in charge of creating graphics and traveling to different competitions to video the games and matches. This internship is helping him with his graphic design skills, as well as exposing him to handball matches and helping him get better at handball. It’s also helping him see if he wants to pursue a sports-related career in the future.

Internship Spotlight! Meet Jessica Le, a senior at CSU majoring in graphic design. She’s currently interning with Dividend Management LLC in their Creative Design department. She found her internship through Indeed, and it has been guiding her through what design and marketing look like in different areas of business. In this role, she is creating work for someone else rather than herself, which has been teaching her what design looks like to other people who aren’t in the field. This internship has helped her prepare for post-graduation work by giving her the experience to see what design work looks like on a professional scale, and by teaching her how she can continue to incorporate that it into her own work.

This past Saturday, 4/18 , Maximus Vogt presented his paper, “Authorship and the Insider: 1970s Q***r Chicago by Luis Medina,” at the Front Range Art History Symposium at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. We are so proud of you Maximus!
