Catch Dr. Barbier on this cool podcast! 🎧

This week on the podcast, we’re diving into environmental economics - specifically how global economies can start valuing nature and shift to a model that is greener, more inclusive, and more democratic. Have you ever wondered why many environmentally damaging industries receive government subsidies while natural raw materials are treated like inexhaustible resources? What about businesses who maintain the status quo even though their bottom line would benefit from incorporating more sustainable practices? We’re tackling all of this and much more with economist Edward B. Barbier: https://apple.co/3svTQtL

Brown Bag Seminars are back! First up, Angela Mensah is a 4th-year Ph.D. student with fields in environmental and natural resource economics and inequality. We look forward to hearing about her latest work, "Growth and Inequality Convergence: The Role of Environmentally Related Impacts on Human Capital," next week!

(Please note, unlike our traditional seminar series, Brown Bags are a supportive space for grad students to workshop things in progress. We like to share them here to lift up the emerging research of our scholars. If you have an interest in joining a Brown Bag, we would ask that you get in touch with us first. Thank you!)

We almost can't contain the excitement: The students have started to arrive! 🤩

Our 2022-2023 cohort of Foreign Trade University (FTU) students got here yesterday, all the way from Hanoi, Vietnam! This stellar group of seniors have already taken courses, virtually and/or in person, from our department faculty. They have chosen to spend their senior year here on CSU campus, finishing their degrees in economics and business, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have them!

But for now, of course, they're just settling in -- seen here touring Old Town, Horsetooth, and other areas of Fort Collins with Professor Terry Iverson and his family. What else should all students be sure to see?

Our Story

The goal of the Department of Economics is to build a learning community that supports the intellectual development and professorial aspirations of both students and faculty. Our undergraduate and graduate programs offer courses that cover an unusually wide range of economic thought, including neo-classical economics, Keynesian economics, institutional economics, Marxian economics, and feminist economics. We want our students to become critical thinkers who understand the debates about economic methodology and policy as well as the techniques of economic analysis.
