Check out an interview with a 2025 graduate of the advanced silviculture for the practicing forester certificate from Colorado State University. Meg works at a carbon sequestration nonprofit and has a PhD in plant pathology from CSU. As a forest pathologist, she wanted to better understand forest management practices from the lens of a forester amidst a changing climate.

Meg works at American Carbon Registry (ACR) as a technical manager of forestry.

From Meg’s perspective:
“As a technical manager of forestry at ACR (a carbon offset registry), my primary responsibility is the review of forestry-based carbon sequestration projects for accuracy, integrity, and alignment with the requirements of ACR’s published methodologies and standards. I felt that earning a certificate in silviculture would help me to better view projects through the lens of a forester, in addition to that of a forest pathologist (which was my research focus in graduate school).”

The Society of American Foresters (SAF) Alpha Chapter at Colorado State University is celebrating a remarkable achievement: winning the Outstanding Student Chapter of the Year Award for the second consecutive year. This prestigious accolade highlights the chapter’s dedication to its members’ professional development, community engagement, and commitment to diversity and inclusion within the forestry field.

One of the highlights for many members is attending the SAF National Convention, which was held in Loveland, Colorado, this fall. Students can connect with professionals nationwide, learn about cutting-edge research, and explore diverse career paths.

An initiative spearheaded by the Alpha Chapter as part of the SAF National Convention was a student-led tour of the CSU Mountain Campus. The tour showcased the chapter’s commitment to peer-to-peer learning and provided a platform for students to share their knowledge and experiences.

Read the story and learn more from the students at the link in the FRS instagram bio.
