DCMA is making waves this semester 🌊

From faculty features in Artburst Miami, WLRN and Miami Herald to student publications in OutClique, our storytellers are producing work that reaches real audiences and reflects real impact.

Guided by Megan Fitzgerald, Ph.D., associate professor and director of the communication program, students are gaining hands-on experience in journalism, arts reporting and cultural storytelling across South Florida.

This is what real-world learning looks like.

DCMA majors, but make them superheroes.

We paired each major with a character that reflects the skills, creativity and mindset students bring into their field. From storytelling and performance to design, music and strategic communication, each path shows up with its own strengths and impact.

Through the DCMA program, Francesca discovered how to combine her love for the arts and reporting.

Covering theatre programs and creative events helped her define the kind of reporter she wanted to become.

The support from faculty and peers played a major role in her journey, including mentorship that helped her land an internship that led to her first full-time role.

Working with Mako Media also helped her develop a professional on-camera presence and strengthened her ability to write meaningful feature stories, skills she now applies daily through video, photography, and digital storytelling.
