Last week, students, staff, faculty and donors gathered to celebrate 🎉

Dr. Peker, director of the office, and President Timur shared words championing students involved, and their achievements.

Priscilla Chambers, a Fulbright finalist and Honors College senior, and Gustavo Hernandez, alumni and scholarship winner, also shared their experiences with the office.

From Dr. Peker, “Our students continually inspire us with their resilience, hard work, and courage to pursue opportunities that can shape their futures. Through the Office of Competitive Fellowships, we are proud to support them with guidance, encouragement, and resources throughout the process. FGCU students’ hard work, commitment, and courage have been inspiring, and I am so proud of all that they have accomplished.”

Nerdy Birds Joseph, Elizabeth, Priscilla and Lizbeth were featured in FGCU 360 last month for their study abroad trips supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and other grants. Working closely with Dr. Hilal Peker, director of FGCU's Office of Competitive Fellowships, they were all awarded the Gilman International Scholarship!🤩

Thank you to everyone who made a gift to FGCU Honors or filled out a Philanthropy Passport. Here are some of our favorite moments from the Library Lawn on Give Day 2026!

With your help, we raised $1,896, won $2,000 from philanthropy passports, and met the Uhler Honors Match Challenge ($1,000)! We also had 50 unique donors, making us eligible for the Honors 25 Excellence Challenge, which awarded us an additional $1,000 because we met our goal of 25 donors.🎉

All in all, that’s $5,896 towards the Honors Development Fund and the Office of Competitive Fellowships!

Thank you again to everyone who helped us reach our goals and remove financial barriers for our Nerdy Birds to achieve their academic dreams!💙💚
