We specialize in Targhee Rams whose daughters have: Excellent mothering abilities, reliable twinning rates, heavy weaning weights, & fine, dense, high yielding fleeces. We are proud members of the American Sheep Industry, Montana Wool Growers Association, the National Sheep Improvement Program, United States Targhee Sheep Association, the Montana Targhee Sheep Association, Black & White Sale, and the Front Range Wool Pool. NSIP is a federation of United States sheep and goat producers seeking to improve the genetic quality and economic viability of their livestock. NSIP uses scientifically proven technology to measure genetic performance. This technology is called EBV's. EBV is short for "Expected Breeding Value". An EBV is an estimate of the genetic merit of an animal for a single trait. Specifically, the EBV of an animal is the expected difference between the performance of that animal's progeney (or offspring) and the average progeny performance of all animals in the breed for that trait. The traits for which we evaluate our sheep are:
Birth Weight, Weaning Weight, Yearling Weight, Maternal Milk Weight, Yearling Fat, Yearling Eye Muscle Depth, Fleece Weight, Fiber Diameter, Staple Length, and Number of Lambs Born. We use the Western Range Index developed by Montana State University and Virginia Polytech to help estimate the economic value of our sheep.
