Yesterday kicked off the first of three Lunch & Learns for our junior Summit Scholars as they begin preparing for their capstone projects.

Associate Professor and Summit Scholars Faculty Fellow Michelle Parker (Polytechnic) talked with the scholars about the importance of time management, setting realistic goals, and keeping their projects within scope.

A great way to start the series and help our juniors begin thinking ahead about what it takes to successfully manage a long-term project!

Last Friday, our new and returning Summit Scholars came together for orientation, and it was such a great way to start the year!

Our current scholars had the opportunity to welcome the newest members of the program, and everyone received an overview of what to expect from their respective scholarship programs. The scholars also had professional headshots taken that can be utilized for LinkedIn, internships, job searches, or wherever else they may need them.

One of my favorite parts of the day was seeing the scholars sit down with their Faculty Fellows and begin making those connections before classes even start.

I’m so excited to see what this group accomplishes this year and to watch them continue to grow, both individually and as a community. I have a feeling they are going to make some pretty amazing contributions to PFW and the Fort Wayne community!

Doermer Scholar Mahlan Dircksen made the most of his scholarship by taking his education more than 4,000 miles from home!

During his first year, Mahlan studied at the International University of Rabat in Morocco, where he experienced a new culture, explored global business, and gained a broader perspective of the world.

He created an amazing video that offers a look into his daily life and experiences abroad. We are so proud of Mahlan for taking advantage of this opportunity and hope his story encourages other scholars to consider where their scholarship might take them!

These photos capture one of my favorite moments from commencement: having the opportunity to medal our graduating Summit Scholars.

These students have spent the last four years growing as leaders, scholars, mentors, and community-minded individuals. It has been a privilege to watch them develop their voices, support one another, and leave their mark on the Chapman and Doermer Distinguished Scholars Programs.

And I cannot say this enough — congratulations. I am so proud of all you have accomplished, and I cannot wait to see where your next chapter takes you. Thank you for the way you have represented this program and for the example you have set for the scholars coming behind you.
