This week’s final Active Brother Spotlight for the summer is Ravind Raipen who is entering his sophomore year at Fredonia, where he is majoring in Criminal Justice. Ravind is our current Vice President of Finance and a 2026 Ruck Scholar.
Here’s what he had to say about his time in the fraternity so far: “Hey everyone, my name is Ravind Raipen. I am from the South Bronx in New York City. I am excited to be entering my 2nd year of college and being a member of SigEp this fall.
Thinking back, I originally sought out this fraternity with only the intentions of networking and philanthropy. I've gotten 10x that. We often do fundraisers for charities and great causes, and we also have great connections with other Sigeps, including our AVC, which is comprised of past Sigeps who want to see their chapter flourish and thrive.
Beyond that, I found a bond that I thought I'd never have with such a big group. I have been supported through the start of college and getting adjusted to life as an adult by my friends, whom I have the amazing opportunity to call my brothers. I have so many cherished memories with every single brother that I wouldn't forget for the rest of my life. There are no words that can describe the feeling you get when you are always surrounded by people who want the best for you and want to see you succeed.
This fraternity has allowed me to think about myself and who I want to be in so many different ways that I never considered. I never thought I'd be such a confident leader if I had never been exposed to this.
Early in my first year, I was given a great opportunity to show what I can do for this fraternity when I was given the role of Vice President of Finance. I came into college as a criminal justice major with a minor in psychology, but due to this brand-new role I was given, I felt inspired to take on finance as a minor since I excelled in it. I feel like if I had never taken this opportunity, I would have been doing myself an injustice.
When college got more challenging with classes and work, I was able to fall back and rely on my fellow brothers to help me see through my challenges, and they encouraged me to keep going.
I definitely would not change my college experience for anything. I have grown on multiple different levels because of SigEp, and I feel like there is so much down the road for me, especially with this brotherhood walking alongside me every step of the way. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for us.
