These are the instructions for applying to the Spanish M.A Program for fall 2025:
1. Fill out an application online through Cal State Apply: https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/Pages/default.aspx
- Follow the instructions, including guidelines about providing transcripts to graduate school if you have graduated from another university
- Make sure that you are applying to be a graduate student in the fall
- We do not require the GRE
- You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
2. Turn in the application package online to the Graduate Coordinator, Dr. Debbie Ávila ([email protected]), before or by April 15th. Include the following in your application:
- Three letters of recommendation
- A personal statement, which should be approximately 500 words, in English or Spanish. The statement of purpose should explain your goals and your interest in an M.A. in Spanish.
- A writing sample in Spanish. It can be a 10-12 page-essay written for one of your classes, or two essays (5-6 pages each). * Include your name as the title of your Word document, but please remove all references to the class and professor in the essay/s, as well as your name. Members of the graduate Spanish faculty will review the essay/s blindly.
Please send application package by email with several Word docs attached: statement, writing samples and letters of recommendation if you have a copy of the letters yourselves. If recommenders wish to send letters directly to the Program coordinator, please ask recommenders to use the following subject line in the email:
