Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and former students of Dr. Scott Williamson, an animal science professor and a swine unit manager on the campus farm for more than 40 years, who passed away this August.

He received the Nicolas Salgo Outstanding Teacher Award in 1988, the Jordan College’s top faculty honor for teaching. Doc, as he was known to many, shaped the lives of countless students as an Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education Department chair, meat animal evaluation coach and swine show team adviser.

A celebration of life is open to the public at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, in the Fresno State Animal Science Pavilion, directly across from the Swine Unit (2654 E. Portals Ave.).

We’re taking a look back at what some of our alumni did over the summer! ☀️

Meet Gabriel Verduzco, a 2013 Plant Science alum who has taken his passion for plants and the outdoors in some incredible directions. Today, he works as a Regional Arborist Advisor for Rainbow Ecoscience and also spends time as a Park Ranger at local nature preserves.

But his work doesn’t stop there! Gabriel is passionate about making the outdoors more accessible and helping others discover new opportunities. He teaches adult surf lessons through Latino Outdoors and serves as a surf mentor for underserved youth through Los Courage Camps and Un Mar de Colores. 🏄‍♂️🌊

His message to current students? Plant Science can take you farther than you might imagine. 🐾

We’re proud to see the impact our alumni are making! 🌱
