Join us for a presentation by Dr. Aarushi Bhandari on her book, “Attention and Alienation: The International Political Economy of Attention,” from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 in the Table Mountain Rancheria Reading Room in the Fresno State Library. 📚🐾

Bhandari is an assistant professor of sociology at Davidson College, and her recent book weaves narratives about growing up during the Nepali Civil War and the internet boom from 1990 to 2020.

Students, faculty and staff can RSVP for an additional workshop from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Library 2206 before the event. Bhandari will discuss how participants can explore their interests in order to create their next professional project - be that an honors thesis, dissertation, research initiative or passion project.

For LGBTQ2+ History Month, students in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies 105 / History 155 Q***r History of America spent time in the Library’s Special Collections Research Center helping archive historical materials covering local q***r newspapers and radio. 🏳️‍🌈

Thanks to a California State Library grant, the university recently acquired the Jeffery Robinson LGBTQ2+ Collection—enabling students to contribute directly to public history and the local Qistory q***r community history project. 🐾

How do young adults balance screen time with being present in real life? 📲

Recent graduate Nena Cammon and student Brieanna Servin analyzed 200+ pages of interview data from youth in Thailand to understand social media habits and digital boundaries. Out of 100+ entries from around the world, their project was the only undergraduate-authored research to win a Best Poster Award in Belgium! 🏆

Congratulations to Dr. Victor Torres, professor of Chicano and Latin American Studies and director of Los Danzantes De Aztlán, who was recently awarded a grant through the California Arts Council's Individual Artists Fellowship, administered by the Kern Dance Alliance. 👏 He received an Established Artist Fellowship to support his creative activities related to Mexican Folkloric dance, both on campus and in the community. 🐾
