Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and former students of Dr. Max Futrell (pictured in the center), a former Criminology Department chair and professor emeritus, who passed away earlier this year.

Dr. Futrell served as the interim dean for the College of Social Sciences from 2001 to 2002. He was recognized for Outstanding Service with the Fresno State Criminology Alumni Association in 1994 and by the College of Social Sciences for his years of service from 1970 to 2006. He also received an honorary citation from President Bill Clinton.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and former students of Dr. Steven Walker, criminology professor emeritus and a pioneer in the field of victim advocacy, who passed away on May 16.

A visionary educator and dedicated philanthropist, he taught at Fresno State from 1989 to 1992 and returned in 1998. He later served as associate dean of the College of Social Sciences before retiring in 2012 as chair of the Criminology Department.
