Congratulations, Class of 2026!

It is an honor to feature some wonderful 2026 grads, continuing our commencement series, we have Jonathan Hernandez!
We asked him about his time at CSUF:

What is your greatest takeaway from being a student in the CSUF Visual Arts department?

"My biggest takeaway from being a student in the California State University, Fullerton Visual Arts Department is gaining knowledge, experience, and networking opportunities that prepare. me for a career in the arts. Through the program, I’ve built a strong foundation of knowledge—not just technical skills, but also an understanding of art concepts, history, and how to think critically about my work. I’ve been grateful to land a job as a student assistant with the College of the Arts Gallery at California State University, Fullerton, which has given me valuable insight into how the gallery field operates. Through this experience, I’ve been able to see the behind-the-scenes work that goes into organizing exhibitions, handling artwork, and supporting artists, giving me a much deeper understanding of the professional art world. Equally important is the networking aspect. Being surrounded by peers, professors, and visiting artists has allowed me to build connections, receive valuable feedback, and learn from others’ experiences. These relationships are essential for future opportunities and collaborations in the art world. Overall, the combination of knowledge, experience, and networking has been the most valuable part of my time in the program."

What is on the horizon? What is your dream job after graduation?

"I'm very excited for the future. I hope to visit friends from the conference in Mexico this summer to work on a small project and aspire to be selected to both present and volunteer at the Prague Quadrennial next summer! My dream continues to be working as an international scenic designer someday and after my experience at the conference, I also find myself perusing more event management positions in hopes of helping organize similar cross-cultural artistic events in the future. Theater is such a personal and touching art form that connects people from every corner of this earth. Now more than ever we need to be connecting and sharing stories as much as possible and I am working to encourage and participate in that exchange.”

Journey through mirrors, memory, and becoming in They Tend to Themselves. In the liminal space between past and future, Rainbow Delicious wrestles with the fear of her own reflection: what it means to be Black, a woman, and everything the world has tried
to make her doubt about both. The production features three mirrors representing past, present, future, and the belief that intuition is our future and past selves delivering messages through our own
consciousness. Jackson performs all roles, embodying Rainbow Delicious, The Mirror, The Future, and
the Ancestors in a seamless physical and vocal performance. Drawing on Afrofuturism, ancestral wisdom, and the African diaspora, Jackson weaves spoken word, movement, and music into a meditation on self-love as an act of resistance.

Members of the CSU Fullerton community are warmly invited to attend and celebrate this milestone. Complimentary press tickets are available upon request.
