Kim’s costume artwork, “The Firebird Abstraction,” was inspired by Igor Stravinsky’s ballet, “The Firebird.” She created created the piece not in the Russian ballet’s conventional style, but in a new and intuitive way to present organic and contemporary costume art form…”

Fall ‘26 officially starts August 22nd (Yes, Saturday)
So it’s New Faculty intro time!

Meet Dr. Kylie Ching.

This fall, Dr. Kylie Ching (she/her) joins the Department of Visual Arts as an Assistant Professor of Art History.

She received her doctorate in Visual Studies at UC Irvine and was previously a UC Riverside Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow. Dr. Ching is a scholar and curator who draws upon feminist and Asian American Studies frameworks to examine contemporary art that engages with issues of race, gender, and militarized migration.

She is committed to partnering with local art organizations and eager to bring her collaborative spirit to COTA.

Study Mexican Muralism where it happened. This upcoming Winter Semester (2027)

Join Art History Professor Rose Adams for an immersive Winter Session study abroad experience in Mexico City and Guanajuato, exploring how Mexican muralists transformed walls and public spaces into powerful expressions of history, identity, revolution, and social change. Stand in front of major murals by Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and other influential artists; visit Teotihuacan, Frida Kahlo’s Blue House, and many important historical and cultural sites and explore Mexico’s vibrant contemporary street art. Experience the energy, museums, neighborhoods, and food of cosmopolitan Mexico City alongside the winding streets, tunnels, plazas, and rich history of colonial Guanajuato. Generous IRA funding is available to help support student travel.

Willie was born in San Francisco, CA in 1934, and Snow White as a little boy....knew he wanted to be an animator when he saw it.

At about age 8, because he was of Japanese descent, he and his family were taken from their home in San Francisco and incarcerated in Utah. He was resilient and didn’t give up hope on being an animator. When released, he finished high school and then went to art school at Chouinard in Los Angeles.

In 1954 (age 20), he was hired at Disney and worked on the famous spaghetti scene in Lady and the Tramp.

He then worked at Warner Bros (on classics like Bugs Bunny, etc.), then went to Bob Clampett Studio, then went to Hanna Barbera, and then back to Disney.

He just recently just completed a film about the incarceration in Utah. The film is called “Hello Maggie”.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of one of our faculty colleagues, Josh Grisetti from the Theater and Dance Department.

His family has provided the following message for our community:

“It is with profound and deep heartbreak that the Grisetti family announces the untimely death of our treasured colleague, Josh Grisetti. At this time, the family asks for privacy as they grieve their beloved Josh. In time, more information will follow.”

During this difficult time, please know that support is available for both our students and our faculty/staff:

• For Students: If you have students who are struggling or in need of mental health resources, please reach out to our Assistant Dean, Hilda Aboytia, so we can connect them with the appropriate support services.

• For Faculty and Staff: If you need support or someone to talk to, please reach out to me directly. I will gladly and confidentially connect you with the university’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Please keep Josh’s family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts.
