A new AI-driven study led by Phillip Sherlock, Ph.D., shows that perinatal depression risk isn’t determined by any single factor but shifts with each mother’s circumstance. Analyzing data from nearly 9,000 mothers, researchers found that the same variables did not consistently present as risk factors across groups.

“We asked: in what contexts does a particular set of characteristics associate with higher or lower depression risk?” Sherlock explains. “The answer: it depends.”

Find out more about the study’s findings in the link below.

“I now find myself reflecting, problem solving and asking, ‘What would Mrs. Hammond do?’” — Katrina Isé, UF Elementary Education

Congratulations to our 2026 Clinical EduGator of the Year, Amy Hammond from Glen Springs Elementary School! This annual award is given to an outstanding mentor-teacher who demonstrates enthusiasm, provides constructive feedback, shares exemplary instructional practices and joyfully invests in interns’ success in the classroom.

Isé, the teacher candidate who nominated Hammond, shared, “Under her mentorship, I have learned that effective teaching is not about having all the answers, but also about remaining reflective, persistent and committed to growth. She models what it means to continuously seek improvement not only for her students, but for herself and future educators.”

In his graduate-level school law class, Chris Thomas, J.D., Ph.D., is deepening students’ legal comprehension with ChatGPT-generated role-play scenarios that simulate real-world conversations taking place in schools across the country every day.

“The assignment has students take on the role of the school attorney while the custom GPT takes on the role of the school principal,” Thomas explains. “The principal is coming to the attorney for legal advice on how to handle an employment law issue, and the students have to work through that conversation in an ethical and legal way.”
