Title: Alpine Repose
Olivia took this photo in Gimmelwald, Switzerland on vacation last summer. It is a car-free town, meaning it is only accessible to the public by a steep hike up the mountain or by cable car. The population of the town is only a bit over 100, and residents rely on tourism and dairy farming to make money. In this photo, a few dairy goats can be seen, nestled amongst the Alpine chalets before the notorious Jungfrau peak.

Hello, hello! The long awaited winners of this semester’s photo contest has been decided.

This time we had the most entries since our first contest and it was real difficult to pick our winners….drumrolllll🥁

Congratulations Aleida Iriarte, one of our winners for the SNRE photo contest! 🏆📸

Title: Frog Paparazzi
Aleida took this photo is of René Carpio Real, a Bolivian herpatologist, photographing a frog called Microkayla Illimani as it crawls across its Andean microgravity. Microkayla frogs are endangered and micro-endemic to the Andes, with this species only being found in the Illimani Mountain region of La Paz, Bolivia. René is a member of the Bolivian Amphibian Initiative, a non-profit conservation organization, and worked as a field technician for Aleida’s dissertation project on Microkayla conservation this past summer.

Congratulations Dani! 🙌🏅🐢🌊

Daniela Rojas-Cañizales, a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Ecology, has been awarded the Archie Carr Award to best Conservation Poster at the 44th International Sea Turtle Symposium, in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

This award helps showcase Dani’s research and highlights her potential as an emerging leader in sea turtle biology and conservation.
