Yesterday we had the pleasure of hosting Leadership Gainesville Class 53 for an immersive day at the University of Florida, where participants experienced firsthand the innovation, collaboration, and leadership that drive our institution forward every day.

From team-building activities at Lake Wauburg and conversations with UF Government and Community Relations leaders, to hands-on experiences at the UF IFAS Beef Teaching Unit, a tour of the Ramos Collaboratory, and a behind-the-scenes look at HiPerGator and UF's artificial intelligence ecosystem, the day showcased the scope of impact and opportunity across the university.

Thank you to all of our speakers, hosts, and campus partners who shared their expertise and passion throughout the day, and to Leadership Gainesville for spending the day with us. We were proud to highlight the many ways the University of Florida is shaping the future through teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today for our Eye Opener event featuring Marianne Vernetson, Director of the Bob Graham Center for Public Service. Marianne shared valuable insights into the center’s mission, its impact on civic engagement, and the important work being done to prepare the next generation of public service leaders.

The event fostered meaningful dialogue and strengthened connections between university and community partners while advancing conversations around civic leadership and public service.

We look forward to continuing the conversation at our next Eye Opener event with Michael Holmes, UF Health Senior Vice President and Greater Gainesville Regional President, who will discuss UF Health’s role in advancing healthcare and serving communities throughout the region.

Please join us in welcoming Gabriella "Gaby" Triana to the UF Government and Community Relations team as our new Communications Intern. Originally from Miami, Gaby is a sophomore studying Business Administration with a specialization in Mass Communication and is actively involved in Delta Delta Delta and the American Marketing Association at UF. We're excited to have her on board and look forward to a great semester ahead.

The Win Phillips Town Gown Relations Award celebrates partnerships that bring the University of Florida and the Greater Gainesville community together. Named in honor of Dr. Win Phillips, a leader whose vision helped shape UF’s connection to the community; the award recognizes individuals, organizations, and initiatives that embody collaboration, innovation, and shared purpose. From research partnerships and community programs to business collaborations and civic engagement, these efforts strengthen the bond between campus and community. We were honored to welcome President Bell as the guest speaker at our Eye Opener event. During his remarks, he shared insights about his background, reflected on his first three months in the role, and discussed his vision for the future of the University of Florida. The event provided a valuable opportunity to connect with community members, foster meaningful dialogue, and strengthen relationships between the university and the community we serve.

Today, we welcomed United Ways of Florida to the University of Florida for a visit to our Emergency Operations Center and WUFT Studios.

We had a great conversation about disaster communications, emergency response, and recovery, and the important role that effective communication plays in supporting communities before, during, and after a disaster.

A special thank you to Steve Orlando, Kenneth Allen, David Peaton, and the entire WUFT team for helping make today’s visit a success.
