When our HSC Librarians go , they are off to spark fresh ideas, promote research, and forge new and stronger connections. Our librarian, Courtney Pyche, recently attended the 2026 International Congress on Medical Librarianship in Glasgow, Scotland. While there, she presented on her research on library diplomacy in health sciences librarianship, chaired a session on innovation, and networked with librarians from around the world. In her words, “The conference was truly eye-opening to the trends and issues that connect health sciences librarians globally. Each day brought new ideas and exciting projects to improve our services. Post-conference, I’m most looking forward to further establishing the University of Florida’s connections with the Academic Alliance for Research4Life.”

Did you know the Health Science Center Library has a dedicated Leisure Reading Collection?

In Spring 2025, we surveyed HSC Library users on their reading habits to ask: "Have you ever read anything for enjoyment that had a significant impact on you?"

Here is what we learned! Your feedback showed a huge interest in fiction & non-fiction connected to the health sciences, so our collection features non-academic titles, including classics, historical fiction, fantasy, and narrative non-fiction, that touch on health through theme, setting, or authorship.

The collection is designed to support student well-being, stress relief, and lifelong learning. Reading non-academic literature builds empathy, perspective-taking, and communication skills, which are key tools for patient centered care.

You can find the collection on the 1st floor of the HSC Library, right next to the stairs and the puzzle table!

If you spot something you like, just bring it to the front desk with your GatorOne ID to check it out. (And yes, we welcome requests for new additions too!) University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries
