join a kickball team, they said

A hardened group of 2nd year UF DPT students returned to campus at the start of the summer semester fresh off their first full time clinical experience. Tension between the faculty/ staff and students heightened over the course of the summer as taunts were exchanged, a challenge issued, and building antagonism culminated in a meeting of two opposing forces on the hallowed grounds of Squirrel Ridge Park.

As dark clouds rolled across the sky, parents rushed their children from the nearby playground fearing what was to come. Diplomacy had failed and a summer’s worth of conflict was about to be decided as feuding nations have for centuries; on the kickball field.

The game started badly for the faculty and staff as their starting pitcher was hit hard including an “inside the infield” home run. A lesser team would have wilted but this faculty/staff team was special. Two relief pitchers kept the students off balance and the faculty and staff showed total disregard for their bodily health with several diving catches. Slowly, the faculty and staff clawed their way back into the game.

At the end, the faculty and staff losing streak was extended to 7 years as the students won 7 to 4. Despite the outcome, handshakes were exchanged, a trophy raised, and a great time was had by all.

The faculty/ staff will console themselves for another year knowing they would have dominated this game had it been played in the 1990s.

Clinical Match Day!

The Class of 2028 students have all been matched to their first clinical placement.

This milestone marks a year of hard work in the classroom, and they can now look forward to applying these skills on-site next spring.

Thanks to the Emmaline, Chad and “Chop” from the Class of ‘27 for the words of encouragement!

Make us proud of there, Gators! 🐊
