Our fall COLOQUIO series starts next week! 🤓 Please join us on Friday, August 28 for the talk "1992: 500 Years of Anti-Colonial Resistance," by Sara Garzón, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the Harn Museum of Art.

Drawing from her book project, Dr. Garzón maps the "counter-commemoration movement" of 1992, examining how artists, activists, curators, and intellectuals challenged the visual and epistemic structures through which the conquest of the Americas was being rememorialized.

The Latin American Research Review is growing its impact on the research community! 📈

The flagship journal of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA), the LARR publishes original research and review essays on Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino/a/x studies from the social sciences and the humanities. 🌎 From 2024-25, the LARR grew its impact factor and cite scores, as well as its percentile among area studies journals.

We're proud to host the LARR here at the University of Florida, with our own Dr. Carmen Martínez Novo serving as editor in chief! 🐊 Congratulations to the entire editorial board for their success, with special shout-out to our Affiliate faculty Dr. Heather Vrana (History) and Dr. Paola Uparela (Spanish and Portuguese) and graduate students María Victoria Muñoz and Nephtali Dzubin. 🎉

Paola Uparela is a Professor of Colonial Studies at the University of Florida, Associate Editor of the Latin American Research Review (LARR), a member of the Executive Committee of LASA Colonial, a founding member of the Societas Lascasiana, and Vice President of the Association of Gender and Sexualities Studies (AEGS). For the 2026–2027 academic year, she has been invited as a Visiting Professor and Research Associate in the Women’s Studies program at the Divinity School of Harvard University.
