We call it PharmDiscovery Week for a reason! Our first-year student pharmacists spent five days discovering what it means to be part of the UF College of Pharmacy — from writing their class creed and taking the pledge of professionalism to connecting with classmates and exploring student organizations. An exciting first week is in the books, and their journey to becoming pharmacists has officially begun!

Dean Peter W. Swaan has been elected to lead the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS). He will begin a one-year term as president-elect this fall and take over as president of the organization in fall 2027.

For Swaan, this recognition holds special meaning, as he has been an active member of AAPS throughout his scientific career and has held several volunteer leadership positions in the organization.

“AAPS has been an important part of my professional journey, providing opportunities to learn, grow, collaborate and build lasting relationships across the pharmaceutical sciences,” Swaan said. “I am deeply grateful for the role this organization has played in my career, and I am honored to have the opportunity to give back by serving as president-elect.”

Swaan will serve a one-year term as president -elect before becoming president of AAPS in fall 2027.
