Dr. Evan W. Lauteria, Assistant Instructional Professor of Sociology, is advancing how artificial intelligence is used in the classroom to support learning and engagement.

He is currently part of UF’s Faculty Learning Community (FLC) for AI and Research in Teaching and Learning, a collaborative initiative between the AI² Center and the UF Center for Teaching Excellence, and he participated in the Harnessing AI for Teaching and Learning FLC last year.

Dr. Lauteria also brings hands-on experience with emerging technologies to his classes. In "Methods of Social Research," students practice conducting unstructured interviews with an AI chatbot he developed. His "Technology & Society" course invites students to discuss artificial intelligence, digital media, and the social impact of technologies ranging from refrigerators and bicycles to video games and social media.

We’re proud to have faculty like Dr. Lauteria leading innovative approaches to teaching and learning at the intersection of sociology and technology.
