October 12, the Texas A&M Maritime Academy gathered to say a final farewell to Rear Admiral Robert Smith III, class of '61.

After a 35-year naval career culminating as Chief of Staff for the U.S. Pacific Fleet and significant time leading the Federal Reserve Bank, RADM Smith led the Galveston campus as Vice President and COO from 2011-16. During his time at TAMUG, he secured funding and approval for several significant buildings on campus including the MAIN Academic Building, Aggie Special Events Center, and Texas A&M Maritime Academy Hall.

Smith was a truly transformational leader whose impact will benefit Sea Aggies for years to come.

Faculty and staff shared insights about how Texas A&M University at Galveston drives the Blue Economy during Breakbulk Americas 2026 in Houston. Attendees who stopped by the TAMUG booth had the opportunity to interact with some of the brightest minds within the Maritime business.

With undergraduate and graduate programs taught by industry leading faculty, maritime students at TAMUG get a head start on a fulfilling career addressing the logistics of global supply chains. Two of those students, Eduardo Lastra and Ian Blanchard won a $500 award for their submission in the 2026 Student Research Poster Competition. Sincere thanks to all of the faculty and staff who stood together to bring the Aggie Spirit to Breakbulk!

Texas A&M University at Galveston Tailgate and March-In!

Watch the Texas A&M Maritime Academy Corps of Cadets conduct March-In, and stay to visit with your favorite Aggies!

Our Texas A&M Maritime Academy Corps of Cadets will join the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets to conduct a campus march prior to kickoff for the Texas A&M vs. Kentucky home football game at 2:30 PM September 19, 2026, at Aggie Park - Ortega Lawn.

March-In routes vary by game to ensure every Aggie fan, spectator and guest has the opportunity to see the Corps of Cadets throughout the 2026 season. We will update the event details as this information becomes available for each March-In.

More than 20 years of work. A $325 million federal investment. And a true Aggie welcome for TS Lone Star State’s homeport arrival at Texas A&M University Galveston Campus.
Vice President, COO and Superintendent Col. Mike Fossum ’80 and Texas State Rep. Terry Wilson ’88 met TS Lone Star State offshore, climbing the pilot ladder to board for the final leg of the journey into its new homeport in Galveston.

At the helm of that final stretch were Galveston - Texas City Pilots David Manney ’93 and Christos Sotirelis ’94. Our thanks to the Gal-Tex Pilots for making this moment possible and safely guiding TS Lone Star State home.

The arrival marks the culmination of more than two decades of sustained work and partnership among university, government, industry and community leaders to bring a purpose-built training ship to Texas. The result is a transformational asset that expands Texas A&M’s capacity to prepare the maritime workforce critical to our economic prosperity and national security.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make this investment a reality: the ship is here. Whoop!

Home Sweet Home!

The wait is over. Lone Star State is finally home! A journey that began decades ago has brought Lone Star State to its homeport at the Galveston Campus where it will be used to educate and train the next generation of maritime professionals serving the blue economy.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard at our public event in November. Stay tuned! Additional events and activities celebrating this milestone will be hosted throughout the year.

GOOD BULL ALERT 🚨👍

What’s the first rule of the sea? To render aid.

This afternoon, crew aboard TS Lone Star State was alerted about a boater in need of assistance about 60 miles off the coast of North Carolina. Fortunately, the crew spotted the vessel shortly after and notified U.S. Coast Guard. Capt. Wade Howell ‘02 commanded the crew to stand by until their arrival, in case urgent aid was needed, and to ensure that surrounding marine traffic was aware. Thanks to USCG the occupants are now safely being transported back to port.

This is the third time that the Texas A&M Maritime Academy has served its fellow mariner community and worked with USCG for the safe return to port of a mariner in need.

Continue to track TS Lone Star State’s inaugural voyage home to Galveston. Just five more days until it arrives at its homeport.

After successfully completing anchor testing today, TS Lone Star State is headed south toward its homeport in Galveston! Arriving on Tuesday, Sept. 8, the ship will begin transit of Bolivar Roads Channel at approximately 9 a.m. and arrive at the Galveston Campus at approximately 10 a.m. We’ve mapped out the best public viewing spots in Galveston for you and hope you’ll share your videos and photos with us as we celebrate this milestone.

We’ll be celebrating the arrival of TS Lone Star State all year long with public celebrations, tours and more. Stay tuned!

TS Lone Star State is officially on its way! After getting a full tank of fuel, Capt. Wade Howell ’02 and crew have set course for home.

Campus Update due to Tropical Storm Edouard

Texas A&M University at Galveston officials continue to closely monitor the risk for potential heavy rainfall and road flooding associated with a developing tropical storm Edouard.

At this time, campus will operate as normal on Tuesday and Wednesday. Dining services will maintain regular mealtimes.

Should conditions cause campus operations or currently scheduled events or activities to change, information will be communicated through Sea Aggie alerts.

Students, faculty and staff should continue to monitor Sea Aggie Alerts, campus email, campus social media (), and the Galveston Campus mobile app (available on App Store & Google Play) for information related to campus impacts.
