Established in 1891 as the University of Texas Medical Department, UTMB has grown from one building, 23 students, and 13 faculty members to a modern health science center with campuses in Galveston, League City and Angleton, with more than 3,200 students and about 900 faculty. UTMB includes schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, Public and Population Health, and Graduate Biomedical Scie

nces. It has four institutes for advanced study; a major medical library; a network of hospitals and clinics that provide a full range of primary and specialized medical care; and numerous research facilities. UTMB is a part of The University of Texas System and a member of the Texas Medical Center. You are the next generation of health care professionals. Nominations are now OPEN for the 2026 SHP Distinguished Alumni Award 🎓

This award honors a graduate of the School of Health Professions who has demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and made meaningful contributions through leadership, service, research, teaching, or clinical excellence—bringing distinction to SHP and their community.

The 2026 recipient will be recognized at the SHP Commencement ceremony this spring and invited to deliver brief remarks (with a pre-recorded option available if needed).

🗓 Nominations close: April 22, 2026

Nominee criteria:
• Must be an SHP graduate
• Demonstrates excellence in their field through impact, leadership, or service
• Available to participate in Commencement

We are excited to join the UTMB Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program in congratulating Jayanna Slaten, MS, MLS(ASCP)SBBcmm, on her recognition by the South Central Association of Blood Banks.

She received the Larry L. Trow Memorial Education Award, presented to an individual within the organization who has significantly contributed to the promotion of education with relation to immunohematology. Ms. Slayten is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the department within the UTMB School of Health Professions. Please help us recognize her!

Congratulations to Jayanna Slayten on being named the recipient of the 2026 Larry L. Trow Memorial Education Award by the South Central Association of Blood Banks.
This prestigious honor recognizes outstanding contributions to the advancement of education in blood banking and transfusion medicine—impacting both the profession and the patients it serves.

Jayanna will be recognized at the 2026 SCABB President’s Award Luncheon on Wednesday, April 8 at 11:30 AM (CT), held during the SCABB Annual Meeting & AIMS at the Hilton Nashville BNA Airport Terminal (April 7–9).

Dr. Rojas is an Associate Professor in UTMB Respiratory Care, School of Health Professions. This recognition as a Distinguished Scholar Fellow highlights Dr. Rojas's significant contributions to education and research in respiratory therapy and interprofessional health care.

We are delighted to share that our UTMB School of Health Professions Department of Respiratory Therapy will be recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) with the Distinguished RRT Credentialing Success Award!

This prestigious recognition places UTMB's program among an elite group demonstrating exceptional achievement in:
· RRT credentialing success rates of 90% or higher
· Strong student retention
· High performance on the Therapist Multiple-Choice (TMC) exam
· Consistent compliance with rigorous accreditation standards

This award reflects the dedication of our outstanding faculty, students, and graduates, whose commitment to excellence continues to elevate the profession and inspire the next generation of respiratory care leaders. The award will be presented at the CoARC Awards ceremony on July 12.
