Integumentary Immersion experience for our Bridge PTA-to-DPT students under the guidance of Dr. Welsh and Dr. Klappa included students engaged in hands-on learning designed to strengthen their clinical knowledge, skills, and confidence in integumentary and wound management. A special highlight of the experience was seeing student expertise become student leadership! First-year Bridge student Amy Owens, who is certified in manual lymphatic drainage, shared her knowledge and experience by helping lead a portion of the class and hands-on lab.

Congratulations to the Bridge Class of 2026! What a wonderful occasion to celebrate the accomplishments, dedication, and hard work of the Bridge Class of 2026 at their Award Ceremony and Graduation! This milestone represents far more than the completion of a program. It reflects the commitment, perseverance, growth, and countless hours of effort that brought each graduate to this special moment. It was especially meaningful to recognize the outstanding achievements of the class and to celebrate the class officers for their leadership, service, and contributions throughout the year. To every member of the Bridge Class of 2026: congratulations on all that you have accomplished! May you carry forward the knowledge, experiences, friendships, and lessons gained along the way as you begin your next chapter. Congratulations to our amazing Bobby Belarmino, PT, PhD, CCS, FNAF (UTMB-PT&RS), and his distinguished colleagues, Dr. Myles Quiben and Dr. Jeff Kalberg, on an outstanding presentation at the 2026 Texas Physical Therapy Association Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas!
Their educational session, “Ankle Brachial Index in Physical Therapy Practice: A Clinical Competency for Every Setting,” highlighted an important message for our profession: a simple, noninvasive screening tool can make a meaningful difference in identifying peripheral arterial disease (PAD), recognizing cardiovascular risk, and helping prevent serious complications. Their message is:
One cuff. Five minutes. A limb saved.
A powerful reminder of the impact physical therapists can have through early recognition, evidence-informed practice, and timely intervention.

Let’s enjoy the pictures from our PHYT 6262 Hybrid Integumentary course. In this weekend’s immersion today students reviewed wound dressings, learned to remove staples and stitches, learned residual limb wrapping, and presented patient wound cases. Although students will not put in stitches in their practice, they do need to know how to remove stitches. Students gained a great appreciation for the skills of surgeons! Dr. Welsh and Dr. Klappa were impressed with the tenacity demonstrated by this group! — Dr. Klappa
