Let’s enjoy the pictures from our PHYT 6262 Hybrid Integumentary course. In this weekend’s immersion today students reviewed wound dressings, learned to remove staples and stitches, learned residual limb wrapping, and presented patient wound cases. Although students will not put in stitches in their practice, they do need to know how to remove stitches. Students gained a great appreciation for the skills of surgeons! Dr. Welsh and Dr. Klappa were impressed with the tenacity demonstrated by this group! — Dr. Klappa

Today we proudly celebrated a meaningful milestone for our Residential and Hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy Class of 2028 at their Professionalism Ceremony.
As each student was pinned by their advisor, they were surrounded by the encouragement and applause of family, friends, faculty, and classmates who have supported them throughout this first year of their journey. Together, they recited the Physical Therapy Professionalism Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to providing ethical, compassionate, and patient-centered care.
This ceremony marks the successful completion of their first academic year and the exciting transition into their first full-time clinical rotations in the weeks ahead. Congratulations, Class of 2028! We are incredibly proud of your dedication, perseverance, and growth, and we look forward to seeing the impact you will make as the next generation of physical therapists. As our PHYT 6436 Hybrid Cardiovascular & Pulmonary students prepare for their upcoming acute care clinical rotations, they recently participated in an immersive ICU Skills Lab designed to transform classroom concepts into hands-on clinical experience using innovative simulation technology and interprofessional learning.
Throughout the lab, students rotated through engaging learning stations where they:
🩺 Completed an ICU lines, tubes, and drains scavenger hunt, learning to recognize the equipment commonly encountered in critical care.
🫁 Practiced identifying normal and abnormal breath sounds using the Student Auscultation Manikin System (SAMS®).
🫀 Reviewed heart anatomy with the Anatomage Table and strengthened their cardiac assessment skills using the Harvey® Cardiology Simulator to differentiate normal and abnormal heart sounds.
💨 Explored the fundamentals of mechanical ventilation and the care of patients requiring ventilatory support with Prof. Sachin Patel from the Respiratory Therapy Department, highlighting the importance of interprofessional collaboration in the ICU.
By the end of the experience, students reported increased confidence in caring for patients in the ICU and an improved ability to distinguish between heart and lung sounds: essential skills for providing safe and effective patient care.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Belarmino, Prof. Sachin Patel, Dr. Klappa, Dr. Chao and everyone who helped make this innovative learning experience possible. Their collaboration continues to enrich our students’ education and prepare them for success in today’s complex healthcare environments.

We are proud to provide immersive, technology-enhanced educational experiences that bridge the classroom and the clinic, equipping our future physical therapists with the knowledge, confidence, and clinical reasoning needed to excel in acute care.

A huge congratulations to our Residential Class of 2027 for performing the Semont maneuver in perfect harmony! It was great to see everyone working together with precision, confidence, and teamwork.
Hands-on labs like these are where knowledge becomes clinical skill—and having fun while learning makes it even better. Thank you, Dr. Sager, for another engaging and memorable lab experience!
