The pumpkins and gourds are ready—and there are more hiding in the vines than you might think! Can you spot all the pumpkins? 🔎🎃

Take a close look at the leaves, vines, and ground…some are easy to find, while others are playing a pretty good game of hide-and-seek! 😄

Pumpkins and gourds are wonderful examples of how much can be growing right beneath our noses. We’re excited to see these colorful fruits reaching maturity and getting ready for harvest! 🍂🎃

🌽❤️ Sneak Peek at Our Jimmy Red Corn!

Dave Myers took a peek at our Jimmy Red Corn, and we think you’ll agree—LOOK at that color! 😍🌽

But did you know Jimmy Red is a historic heirloom corn variety known for its deep red kernels and rich, distinctive color? It’s traditionally valued not only as a beautiful field crop, but also for its culinary uses.

Our corn is growing strong, and Dave is already counting down to harvest in mid-October! 🌱👨‍🌾

We’ll be watching these ears closely as they finish maturing. Stay tuned—we’ll share more from the field as harvest gets closer!

Please join us in thanking our Summer Intern, Teagan Flaherty, for all of her hard work and dedication at the Anne Arundel County Extension Office and the Anne Arundel County Urban Farming Research Clinic! We truly appreciate everything Teagan contributed this summer and wish her all the best in her future endeavors. 🎓🌻

Teagan shared:

“This summer was quite the adventure here in Anne Arundel County as well as my travels across the state at various events. One of the biggest highlights of my summer was our donations to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank. All of the produce was collected from the Anne Arundel County Urban Farming Research Clinic throughout the summer and included peaches, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, and jalapeños. As of my last day in the office, we had a total count of 1,788 pounds of produce donated this summer.”

What an incredible accomplishment! 🍑🥒🍅🌶️

What an incredible evening at the Crops Twilight Tour & Ice Cream Social at CMREC Upper Marlboro Farm! 🌾🍦

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an evening of learning, networking, and celebrating agricultural research. A special thank you to our distinguished guests, Dr. Jinhee Kim, Darren Jarboe, and Dr. Puneet Srivastava, and to all of our speakers who shared their innovative research and expertise with our local farming communities and agricultural partners.

Attendees explored a wide range of research and Extension projects, including:
